Multiple issues with iOS and Mac syncing
Hi! I'm having a few issues with syncing my iPhone and Mac.
Sync using Wifi - My mac never shows up on my phone. I've tried on different wifi networks, at home and at work, and just today got a brand new macbook but still no luck.
Sync with iCloud - 1Password found existing data in iCloud. It will be merged with the primary vault. > Merge > syncing > doesn't include test favorite that I added to make sure it was up to date.
Sync with Dropbox - Vault mismatch > Should I merge? No idea.
There seem to be a few other things that don't quite add up.
My Dropbox has two conflicting copies. I have no idea how that happened
Please help!

Hi @Laurel
Can I ask, are you currently syncing any Mac or device with another one at this moment or are we free to go ahead and purge all the locations of sync data and start afresh?

Just this mac and this phone. Not sure if there's anything on the phone that's not on the computer but am sure there is computer stuff that's not made it to my phone yet.
Thanks!0 -
I think I'd prefer wifi or iCloud. Being able to use either depending on the situation would be great, but if I can only pick one I'd like wifi.
Thanks

Hi @Laurel
I've realised I made the rookie mistake of not confirming versions of 1Password. Everything you read below assumes 1Password 4 or 5 on both your iOS device and Mac. If that assumption is incorrect then please ignore and let us know what versions we're dealing with. Apologies for that oversight.
So the first step is to disable syncing if it's currently enabled.
iOS: In 1Password go to Settings > Sync. If the top line says Start Syncing then sync is currently disabled and we're good. If it says Sync Service and then the title of a Sync method then you're currently syncing and we will want to disable that. Touch that first line, the one titled Sync Service in in that new page there will be a button at the bottom titled Disable Sync. Confirm and that takes care of the iOS device.
Mac: In 1Password enter the preferences and switch to the Sync tab. If you aren't syncing you'll see the various options and Wi-Fi Sync will be unticked. If you're syncing there will be a change Change Syncing... button. Click that and confirm
At the end your devices should look like this
Now to purge the various locations of the sync data, we'll handle both from your Mac.
iCloud: In System Preferences > iCloud click on the Manage... button and delete the two entries for 1Password.
Dropbox: Search your Dropbox for any copies ofagilekeychain
. You can use that string of text in either Finder or search your Dropbox space from within Dropbox's website. Remove all copies. Now lets do a quick backup for both devices.
iOS: In 1Password go to Settings > Advanced and click the Create Backup button.
Mac: In 1Password enter the preferences and switch to the Backup tab. Click the Backup Now button. Now to the tricky bit, trying to get syncing working for you.
iOS: In iOS Settings > General > About make sure the Name of your iOS device doesn't look odd at all e.g. no
(2)
at the end or anything like that, edit if needed. If it looks normal go ahead and reboot your iOS device.Mac: In System Preferences > Sharing do the same as above, make sure your Computer Name is normal looking and doesn't have anything like
(2)
at the end, edit if needed. If it looks fine go ahead and reboot your Mac.The number one issue with Wi-Fi Sync is Bonjour throwing a hissy fit and the Bonjour names and reboot should take care of most of those.
At this stage you should be able to follow our Sync over Wi-Fi guide which will first show you how to enable Wi-Fi Sync on your Mac and then your iOS device.
If you have any problems, questions or would like anything explained in any more depth please do let us know. Fingers crossed though we will be hearing Wi-Fi Sync is finally working for you

Thanks LBT for your help. I finally got a chance to go through all follow all the steps. I'm good until the restart and try to sync over wifi part. Everything seems to be in line except my Laptop won't appear in the Wifi Sync list on my phone :\ They're on the same wifi and I've refreshed a few times but no dice. Ideas?

Hi @Laurel
I apologise that didn't resolve everything. Just as a troubleshooting step it might be worth trying to Create an ad hoc network. I certainly don't mean for it to be a actual solution, merely it might tell us a bit more where the issue resides.
If the ad hoc network allows your Mac and iPhone to communicate it would suggest the network is somehow responsible, rebooting the router may help in that instance. If the ad hoc network doesn't work I'd wonder if you have any security or firewall software on your machine as it is one common cause of the blocked communication. If you have any security or firewall software something to try would be to briefly disable it (emphasis on brief, again just for testing).
If you could let us know the outcomes of those steps that would be great. With a little luck we can pin down the source of the issue and remedy it.

Ok, I just tried again at home and it worked! I think it's just that work's wifi is too locked down. Although it wasn't working at home either before, so you definitely helped me! I'll just have to make sure to sync at home from now on.
Thank you thank you thank you.0 -
Hi @Laurel,
On behalf of the guys here, you're welcome.
Ok, I just tried again at home and it worked! I think it's just that work's wifi is too locked down.
That would definitely explain it. Most businesses and colleges would have the Bonjour service disabled because Bonjour is very chatty. We use bonjour to automatically find 1Password in the network, so imagine the amount of traffic with multiple 1Password users in the same Wi-Fi network trying to find each other.
Usually, using Dropbox or iCloud would work around this because 1Password would connect to Dropbox or Apple's iCloud servers directly to sync data.
However, we have heard that many businesses have either one blocked as well for security reasons.I'm glad you got it working now. If you need any further assistance, please let us know.
