Disable Passwords Category?

I've just switched to 1Password 4 for Mac and I'm not a very happy customer so far. In addition to the multiple browser login problem I've brought up in another discussion, I really don't like this Passwords category. In my view, the Logins category is my password category because I use a password to log in. With the Passwords category, when I do as search there's too much redundancy because every entry shows up twice, once as Login and again as a Password. Is there any way to disable this Password category so that it doesn't appear?

I feel Agile Bits is making the mistake of constantly adding new features just for the sake of adding new features (and to justify charging for an upgrade) rather than actually making the product better. Just my $.02.

The Passwords category plays a special role in 1P. It is the home for passwords you have generated in 1P which may not be linked to a specific saved login item, so in that sense it's a sort of fail-safe category. It's pretty easy to clear duplicate passwords from the Passwords category. Go to 1P4 > Help > Tools > Remove Redundant Generated Passwords.

    Hi @rlf‌

As Stephen_C has said, a Password item is created when you use the Password Generator and make use of the generated password via the Fill or Copy button. It does this so there is a record of the password on the assumption that you're using it somewhere. If you then go on to create a Login entry that Password item is deleted. It does this if you let 1Password offer to record a Login or follow the Saving a Login Manually steps. The one situation where it won't is if you create a basic Login item from within the main 1Password screen.

That's one use, I also find the type handy for entries where only password is required e.g. an iOS app. It's also a convenient type for storing the Master Password for secondary vaults. You don't tend to need them very often and I know I managed to forget mine by the time I needed it.

Between this explanation and Stephen_C's steps to remove potentially most of the entries does that help with how the Password item was envisaged and how to handle it?

I once was confused by the Password category too, but since I learned what purpose it serves, it's turned out to be very useful, particularly when changing passwords at a site that doesn't cause the dialog to save a revision to popup.

    Hi @rlf,

I just wanted to add that the Passwords category is not a new feature. It's been around for years, although in 1Password 3 for Mac it was called "Generated Passwords". Sorry for any confusion about that! Hopefully these answers have been helpful, but please let us know if you need anything else.
