    Please try this:

    1. drag the 1P application to the trash (don't use any app cleaner tool because it may remove files you need to keep);
    2. empty the trash and re-boot;
    3. re-download and re-install 1P.

    Does it work now?

    If not please post again and confirm that you are using OS X Yosemite (10.10)—because 1P5 works only with that. If you're still on OS X 10.9 you need 1P4. If you still have problems please also tell us whether you bought 1P5 from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits Store.

    hello stephen i did what you told me and i could open 1password now. but i do not agree with the thing that i can not sync with icloud. i payed for the app couple of years ago, then i had to pay again to update 1password 3 , i payed for my iOS 1 password and now agile bits wants me to buy the app vertion???? i am really not happy with this, agile bits should respond to their costumers.

    OK, let's take this slowly so we can all understand the problem. :) As I understand it, your first problem is solved: you can now run 1P and are running 1P5. Is that correct?

    You say:

    i payed for the app couple of years ago, then i had to pay again to update 1password 3 ,

    To be 100% clear, did you pay to upgrade 1P for Mac to 1P4 for Mac? If so, where did you buy that upgrade: from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store? Approximately when did you buy the upgrade to 1P4 for Mac?

    As a final bit of information that would be useful, please tell us exactly what you see if you go to 1P > About 1Password (ignoring the credits, of course).

    I know this doesn't immediately solve the new problem for you but please let us have the additional information which will help us to help you further.

    Hi @Isaac Michan

    I'm glad Stephen_C managed to get your first issue resolved.

    As to your second issue. If I had to guess I would say you were running 1Password 4 (Web Store) and using iCloud Sync with a Mavericks (OS X 10.9) machine and are now running 1Password 5 (Web Store) with Yosemite (OS X 10.10), would that be correct?

    With the introduction of iOS 8 and Yosemite (OS X 10.10) Apple reimplemented iCloud to improve it. Part of that improvement was CloudKit and this was intended to make synchronisation more reliable and to seem more responsive by working to the schedule of the app rather than the app working to the schedule of iCloud. The improvements were too great to pass up so we moved to using CloudKit. Unfortunately there were two consequences.

    1. CloudKit is only available on iOS 8 and Yosemite meaning you can sync iCloud unless all your device use these.
    2. Apple restricted access to CloudKit to MAS applications only. We still have an announcement on this, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5

    Wi-Fi Sync still works between all copies of 1Password 4 and 1Password 5 as does Dropbox. We just can't offer iCloud Sync in the 1Password 5 Web Store version though - it just isn't possible.

    You can continue to run 1Password 5 and will have access to all minor updates for version 5, it's just iCloud Sync is no longer available. If you're willing to consider Dropbox though we can help with the transition and it won't cost you a penny to do this.

    Let us know what you would like to do.

    Hi @Isaac Michan

    Unfortunately there isn't a way to mass migrate users from one the Agile Web Store version to the Mac App Store. This is a limitation in Apple's store. If we could we would. We can move people from Apple's MAS to our Web Store version because we control the licensing for our version but we have practically zero control when it comes to MAS. We don't want you to pay for the MAS version, it's just we don't have any way to move user over.

    As I said before, while iCloud support was an issue with the release of Yosemite/iOS 8 and 1Password 5 all the versions still support Dropbox and for those that don't like an cloud method there is Wi-Fi Sync. Could Dropbox be an alternative?
