Changing Category Names and Icons
Hello,
As was raised in this previous discussion, I would like to be able to change the name of the Social Security Number category to Social Insurance Number. It appears this should be possible via this Crowdin page, but all the entries show as "Nothing to Translate". Is this the correct place to make such changes? If so, how do I make a change?
I know this seems like a very trifling request, but I'm sure you'll find that many of your non-US customers find the US centricity of the icons and category names to be somewhat irksome. You are a Canadian company, so I'm sure you're familiar with what I'm saying.
As well (as others have also mentioned), I have other types of ID that I would like to store in 1Password, but there isn't a matching category that I can use. For example, I have a provincial medical ID card (Care Card), debit cards for different banks, health benefits card through work, etc. I know this request has been raised in the past, so I'm hoping there will eventually be some support for creating custom categories or simply having a generic category that will allow you to set your own icon. Can you provide any update on this feature request?
Thank you.
Mason

Hi @masons,
I believe CrowdIn is showing "Nothing to Translate" as we haven't enabled the English/Canada translation yet. We have a case here logged for us to look into enabling that, with a specific example of SSN -> SIN. As someone who has both SIN and SSN, I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Once we've enabled en_CA as a locale, CrowdIn would definitely be the place to get the translation in.
I can't provide you an update on the Custom Categories feature request beyond "we hear you." That's definitely an issue that we're aware of and want to provide a better experience for. I just don't know when that better experience will show itself, or in what form it'll be.

Hi @rickfillion,
Thanks for the note about the en_CA locale. You do raise a good point about a person having both a SSN and SIN; my ex-wife and both of my kids are in the same boat (I'm the only one in my family with just Canadian citizenship). There again is a good reason to have custom categories.
As for the custom categories feature, I had hoped we would see that in 1Password 5. I'll sit tight and hope that it arrives in an upcoming point release.

Hi @masons
I've added your voice to the request for custom categories. I can't promise anything but your interest has been noted.

Hello,
Please add me to the list of Canadian users requesting Canadian related categories and/or "translations". For example I would also like to use Social Insurance Number rather than Social Security Number.

I agree - being able to move an item from one category to another after importing is critical - other secure database do it ewallet - if you have different headings then provide a translator where you pick what field the data goes into. this is a must have!
If you expect people to copy and past then what good is the converter and loading the data in just have ewallet up and cut an paste

Hi i am a potential new user of 1password and with your support have just managed to import all my data from my current password manager msecure. However i find a lot of data is incorrectly categorised for whatever reason. For instance some of my bank savings accounts have ended up in secure notes whilst others have gone into memberships!. This wouldn't be a real problem if i could change the category when editing but i don't seem to be able to do this. I also have a couple of other issues you might be able to help me with
1) In some instances i would like to add additional fields to an existing entry, such as a password field. Is there a simple way to do this in 1 password or must i start from scratch,
2) is it possible to combine entries, for instance a login with a secure note?Appreciate any help you might be able to give me on the above.

@mikebeaumont - You can add custom fields within existing categories. As i look at a Login record in edit mode, I see where it indicates you can add a new field. It is generically labeled, "label," followed by "new field." You'd add your new password field there.
It isn't possible to combine records.
When you import the records from another application, typically they end up in Secure Notes if the fields don't map to any existing 1Password category. If your previous application allowed liberal customization, it will be very hard for any data converter to understand your own customizations outside of the defaults from the application. In my own case, I had made liberal use of customized categories and records in another application. Records within a category often differed from one another, depending on what I wanted to save. Automated conversion never made me happy, and I painfully reentered all my data into 1Password by hand. It sounds to me like you are ahead of that game. At least you have the records so you can copy and paste information into the proper categories.
This screen capture highlights where to create a new field in a sample record:

Thanks so much for considering 1Password to keep your data secure and organized! I hope that Hawkmoth's post has helped you out - he's right on the mark here.
As far as changing categories goes, this is not currently possible, but it's a frequent feature request, and I'd be happy to add your vote to the existing issue in our internal tracker. For now, 1Password mini makes it fairly simple to copy and paste details into a new entry. Just use the anchor icon when viewing an item's details in mini to pin the details to your screen, then you can create a new entry in the main app.
