I'm afraid I can't answer your main question because I don't know why the 1P mini icon isn't appearing in your menu bar. However, perhaps in the meantime I can offer a little help with this:

    reducing efficient use to "zero"

You will probably be helped by using, for now, the keyboard shortcut ⌥⌘\ to open 1P mini. (I'm assuming that in 1P > Preferences > General you have checked Always keep 1Password mini running.)

It is possible you have too many items in the menubar running the 1Password mini app behind the text of the open window. Many folks here use Macbartender to basically give you another menubar. I for one will never have another mac without it.

Also if you just updated I think the icon changed from the key to a key hole slot, if your not familiar.

    Hi @pcplayer‌

The few times we've seen this it has (so far) always been a case of too many menu bar icons for all to remain visible. What program you have in focus can have an impact too as different programs use up different amounts of the menu bar for all their own drop down menus.
