Merging 1Password data
Here's my issue. I installed 1Password on my iMac, and over time added about 50 records. Then I needed access to it on my corporate MacBook Pro (MBP), which doesn't allow DropBox, so I copied the data to my MBP and over time added records to it as well as the iMac. Now I have moved the iMac version to Dropbox and want to merge the MBP data to it. (I plan to start over and repeat this process by copying the new merged data to the MBP.) They're both in 1Password 4.
I'll note that that this data is shared by my wife, daughter and I, so in a few cases we each have separate records for the same website. Every record's name is prefixed by the user's name. For example, two of us have logins for vanguard.com named "Doug - Vanguard" and "Anne - Vanguard".
Whenever I make changes to my MBP list, I make sure not to change any records that are on the iMac (I make those changes on the iMac).
I printed out both lists and determined which records were new on the MBP. I deleted all records already in the MBP list, then exported the MBP data to a .pif directory (29 records) and imported it to the iMac data. I had expected the iMac list would be untouched. I was surprised to see that some of the records on the iMac were deleted (or merged?) -- for example, the record named "Anne - Vanguard" disappeared, even though the records I was importing did not include a "Doug - Vanguard" or any other Vanguard site. So I immediately restored to my iMac backup until l better understood what was going on.
I scoured your website and couldn't find any relevant instructions on how to merge data, other than stories in the Discussions that didn't fit my use case.
Any help is appreciated. I love 1Password and can't wait for it to support Google Drive.

Oops, they're both in 1Password 5.0.2.

Hi @dougkramer,
To make sure I understand your current setup: It sounds like you have 1Password 5 for Mac on both Macs. On your iMac, you have 1 vault in 1Password, and it syncs with Dropbox. On your MacBook Pro, you have 1 vault in 1Password with some of the same info as on your iMac. The vault in 1Password on the MBP does not currently sync at all, and is unable to use Dropbox. Your goal is to merge the 1Password data from each Mac so they both have the same information. Does that all sound correct?
If that's right, here's what you can do:
- First, make a fresh backup of 1Password on each Mac by opening 1Password and going to File > Backup.
On your MacBook Pro:
- Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences.
- Go to the Sync tab and select Folder Sync.
- Set Folder Sync to create your 1Password.agilekeychain file on the Desktop (or another easy location).
- After it creates the keychain file, disable Folder Sync.
- Copy the keychain file to your iMac.
On your iMac:
- Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences.
- Go to the Sync tab, click Change Syncing > Disable Sync, then switch to Folder Sync.
- Choose the 1Password.agilekeychain file you copied from your MBP.
- Choose to merge the data and enter your master password if prompted.
- Check the data in your vault to make sure everything is fine (make any edits as needed).
- Disable Folder Sync and switch back to Dropbox.
- Copy the keychain file back to your MacBook Pro.
On your MacBook Pro:
- Set up Folder Sync in 1Password again, choosing the updated copy of the keychain file you copied back from your iMac.
- You'll need to merge the data, then everything should match on both Macs.
Does this help? Please let us know if you have any questions about that. Thanks!

I re-opened this case as a new case at:

and it has been resolved there.0 -
I'm going to go ahead and close this thread given the existence of the other one. I"m glad to hear you managed to resolve the problem
