want to use iCloud, didn't buy from Apple
I want to use iCloud to sync across devices, but it doesn't appear as an option because I didn't purchase it from Apple. If I download from Apple, I assume I'll have to purchase it again. I can deal with that, but will my current vault of passwords be retained? What about my login and password for 1Password? Also do I have to download the App on every device or do the others just need access to my iCloud account?

Thanks for writing in.

Correct; only App Store apps can sync with Apple's CloudKit (the iCloud sync technology 1Password uses).

If you purchased from us within the last 30 days we can issue you a refund. Otherwise, yes, it would be a 2nd purchase.

Yep. :) Just drag the current application to the trash and empty the trash, then install the Mac App Store version. Please do not use any "app cleaner" or "uninstaller" type applications to remove the currently installed version.
What about my login and password for 1Password?
Your Master Password is unaffected.
Also do I have to download the App on every device or do the others just need access to my iCloud account?
You would need a copy of 1Password on each device you'd like to access your 1Password data in iCloud on. Please note that only Macs running OS X 10.10 & 1Password 5 for Mac and iOS devices running iOS 8 & 1Password 5 for iOS can sync via CloudKit (iCloud).
Thanks!
