Apple App Store Vs. Agilebits Website - Direct questions.
Hello,
I would like to purchase 1Password for Mac directly from Agilebits.
However I have a couple of questions:
Importantly - If I purchase directly from the 'App Store', will I be entitled to any 'Major' updates (e.g. version 5.0 to 6.0) for free (as is the case with other apps) ?
Surprisingly, it is my understanding that this is not the case if directly purchased from the Agilebits website. If I purchase from the 'AppStore', can I pay the licence fee directly to Agilebits at or before the 30 day mark (in order to get the combination discount deal for Windows and Mac platforms) ?
I am confused about this one... What is the advantage of purchasing directly from your website if priced in USD$, when on the 'App Store' it is the same nominal price in a local currency (i.e. cheaper) ?
Thanks in advance for your assistance, and I look forward to using your App with (hopefully) continued support.

When AgileBits released version 4 for iOS, which can only be purchased from the iTunes App Store, they discontinued version 3 and issued version 4 as a new application. Users who wanted to move up were required to pay for the new version. So it is possible that they could do the same in the Mac App Store for major upgrades of the software.
If you mean from the AgileBits web store, you can pay anytime you like, but the free trial version will expire after 30 days, and you won't be able to add new records or edit existing ones, unless you purchase a license. But you may make your purchase anytime you wish. If by App Store, you mean Apple's Mac App Store, you would be paying Apple directly, not AgileBits. You would need to pay before you could download the software, so there is no free trial, and there would be no Mac/Windows bundle. If you take the latter route, you can email your Mac App Store receipt to AgileBits and they will provide a discount on the Windows version.
I can't answer this one. The two versions are identical in function, except that if you want to use iCloud for syncing, you must purchase the Mac App Store version. In your case, since that version is cheaper for you, it probably makes sense to buy from the Mac App Store. Remember that you can't use iCloud anyway, if you want to have Windows or Android devices synchronized with Macs. Perhaps an advantage to the AgileBits web store version is that you could purchase the Mac/Windows bundle directly, without the fuss of submitting records of your Mac purchase from Apple.
