1password won't launch on second mac

I purchased 1Password5 in the app store, set it up on my iMac (running Yosemite). Also installed it on my iPhone 5S, working fine. Using Family Sharing, I downloaded it to a second mac (my wife's macbook air, also running Yosemite). The icon shows up in her iTunes apps and shows up in Finder under Mobile Applications, but will not launch when double clicked (or when asked to open from the menu bar).

The icon shows up in her iTunes apps and shows up in Finder under Mobile Applications,

That suggests you've got 1P for iOS on your wife's Mac. What you need to download is 1P for Mac from the Mac App Store.

And how do I do that without paying $49 again? How do I access the mac app store from with iTunes, using the family sharing feature?

See this Apple support article on family sharing. As we're talking about 1P for Mac it's nothing to do with the iTunes Store or iTunes. Your wife needs to download 1P from the Mac App Store (just run the App Store application on your wife's Mac). The linked article will enable you to ensure family sharing is properly set up in OS X so that your wife will not need to pay again to download 1P.

    Edited to clarify downloading procedure.

As long as your wife is in your family group, you won't be charged again, even though it looks like it. I know this takes a bit of courage at first, but Apple's interface is confusing in this regard, and your wife will only see that the application is eligible for Family Sharing after you click the Buy button. I had a bunch of trouble setting up Family Sharing because of some Apple ID confusion on my wife's side, and while chatting on line with an Apple support person, I got the reassurance I needed to click that buy button the first time. But do be sure you actually do have Family Sharing set up, or you will indeed be charged again. If you want to confirm this for yourself, without risking this big a purchase, why not try it on a $1 app? That's what we did at first, using an iOS application that we both wanted as a test.

Apple needs to fix this interface confusion and test for Family Sharing eligibility when you are looking at the application, not only after you click on Buy.

Edit: You access the Mac App Store with the App Store Application, not through iTunes. And Apple also should be wondering about the wisdom of having two different software stores with essentially the same name.

You aren't being thick. Apple isn't clear about this.

Thanks @hawkmoth‌ I don't have Family Sharing so I had no idea they'd made it so difficult in the OS X App Store application. I completely agree with you on naming thing too, having the App Store on both OS X and iOS and for them to be completely separate and intransitive stores is just confusing.
