Have 1Password v.3.7.2 on old iphone. now need to put on new iphone?
Hi i tried to sync to put my data on new iphone, but i only started with 1Password demo on windows to sync my iphones and ipads; once it was setup, i've been able to use it without any trouble. So when i couldn't get the data on my new phone, I bought the license for windows, figuring i should be able to input that code into my current 1password, sync to windows, and then put into new phone. but the 1Password v 3.7.2 won't let me enter any code? I don't really want to have to re-input all the passwords. Help!

Hi @nuinta, welcome to the forums!
I'm sorry you're having trouble getting your 1Password data to the new iPhone. Unfortunately Dropbox sync has not worked in 1Password 3 for iOS in well over a year, ever since Dropbox changed their API back in September 2013. Also, the Wi-Fi sync option in 1Password 3 for iOS does not work with any version of 1Password for Windows.
But don't worry, you definitely have a couple options to get your 1Password data onto your new iPhone. To figure out the best way to do that, can you let us know a few more details:
- Do you still have your old iPhone with 1Password 3.7.2 and all your data?
- Does your 1Password data exist only on your old iPhone?
- What version of iOS is running on your old iPhone?
- What version of iOS is running on your new iPhone?
- What version of 1Password is installed on Windows?
Thanks!

Hi - thanks for the response, sorry I wasn't online yesterday. I still have my old Iphone 4S, available by wifi, as I switched the telephone coverage over to the new phone. Old phone: iOS version 6.1.3. New phone: iOS version 8.1.2. Windows 1Password: v. 4.1.0.530. I also have the data on my iPads, but did notice that the data wasn't sync-ing (I guess I should have paid more attention). an old Ipad is iOS version 7.1.2, I probably use the old iphone a little more than the ipad. I have a new ipad also, hadn't even started trying to set that one up.
Thanks for any help you can provide, I was thinking of manually transferring all the data to the windows version, but even after all that work, didn't know how to then sync my new iphone/ipad to the windows version without having to pay for the apps again. As it was I paid for the window version and then found out there was an educator discount. D'oh! :)

Hi @nuinta,
Thanks for the information! With your setup, there are a couple options for getting your 1Password data to your new iPhone. You can make a backup of 1Password 3 from the old iPhone, then restore from that backup to 1Password 3 on the new iPhone. But you'll still run into the problem of not being able to sync 1Password with Windows or your other iOS devices.
Therefore, once you get your 1Password 3 data on your new iPhone, you'll probably want to upgrade to 1Password 5 for iOS - which is a free download and offers free basic features. That will allow you to sync with Windows. You'll also be able to install a newer version of 1Password on your other iOS devices too, and start syncing those. This will all take a few steps, but it should be fairly easy, and everything will work much better once you do all that.
First, let's get 1Password 3 and your data on your new iPhone:
- On your new iPhone, go to App Store > Updates > Purchased, find 1Password (version 3.7.2), and install it.
- On your old iPhone (4s), follow the steps here to create a .1ptbackup backup file from 1Password 3 and save it to your Windows PC.
- Restore your data to 1Password 3 on the new iPhone by following the steps for Restoring Data from a Backup on that same page.
You should now have 1Password 3 on your new iPhone, and it should have your data. If so, continue with these steps to upgrade to 1Password 5 for iOS:
- On your new iPhone, install 1Password 5 for iOS from the App Store (it will be installed as a separate app from 1Password 3).
- When you open 1Password 5 for the first time, choose Sync existing vault.
- Then choose the option for Import from version 3.
- When 1Password 3 opens, it should prompt you to import data to the new version. If you need help with that, we have more information here.
If all goes well, you should have all your data in 1Password 5 on your new iPhone. The next step would be to sync that with 1Password on Windows. Since you're using other iOS devices as well, Dropbox sync is probably your best bet:
- On your new iPhone, set up Dropbox sync in 1Password 5 by following these steps.
- Allow Dropbox sync to complete.
- On your Windows PC, wait for Dropbox to finish copying your data down from your private dropbox.com web site.
- Launch 1Password for Windows, choose File > Open 1Password Vault, and locate and select this folder:
…\Dropbox\Apps\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain
On your other iOS devices, you may want to consider updating them to iOS 8, and then you'll be able to install 1Password 5 (and sync your 1Password data from Dropbox). If you can't or don't want to update them to iOS 8, you can install 1Password 4. Simply open the App Store and go to your list of Purchased apps (on an iPhone, the list of Purchased apps is in the Updates section). Find 1Password 5 and try to install it. You should be prompted to install the latest version compatible with your version of iOS.
If you have any questions about that, just let us know. Thanks! :)
