Wi-Fi Sync doesn't work

Does sync question belong in Mac or iOS section?

Mac OSX 10.9.5 - 1PW 4.4.3
iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.2 - 1PW 5.1.2

I used to be able to do wifi sync, but now I keep getting notice on phone that it doesn't see a mac or PC on the same network. Ummmm, yes, it IS there; I only have 1 wi-fi network and both phone and mac are ON it.

I DON'T WANT to sync to dropbox or anyplace out of my control. I WANT to use wi-fi as your documentation says I can.

I added one test PW on my phone and one test PW on my mac.
On phone, I go to settings, select the vault and say Sync Now. Wi-Fi is selected. Message is "Computer not found. 1P can not find a Mac or PC to sync with.....blah blah." I dismiss the message, and it did not sync.

I found a note somewhere in your help that says on 1P4, you have to go to File; WiFi Sync (but it's really on Window; Wifi Sync), so I do that, and it opens a new window with a "secret" and it says to redo the sync while leaving the window open, and enter the secret below. Follow the directions, still get Computer not found error. generate a new secret. still not found. I am NEVER prompted by my phone for the secret. There is NO place to refresh the list anymore.

I really like 1PW, but honestly getting it to JUST WORK is such a pain-you-know-where. When I use it to store info on one device I can easily retrieve it when I need it ON THAT DEVICE. Getting the info on the other device, honestly, it's faster to enter it manually than to get this stoooooopid system to work the way it is supposed to!

Thanks in advance for your reply!

  • Hi @xyzsail‌

You're currently stuck between a rock and a hard place, unfortunately. If you are dead set on WiFi syncing your 1Password data then your only way to do that would be to upgrade your Mac to OS X 10.10 and 1Password 5 for Mac (both are free upgrades).

1Password 4 for Mac will WiFi sync with 1Password 4 for iOS, but not 1Password 5 for iOS. The architecture has changed in the new version. It isn't possible to downgrade iOS. So your only way forward is to upgrade your Mac.

    Thanks.

Same problem - I don't want to upgrade to Yosemite nor be forced to sync outside of my LAN. I am glad I kept v 3.7.2 on my iOS 8 device - I will revert to using that which syncs over wifi on OSX10.8 very nicely. This is a good product but devs might really consider end users rather than slavishly following the apple upgrade impetus - I know lots of folk who are sticking to Snow Leopard !

  • Sometimes in order to implement some features, an OS upgrade is required and it's not always possible to preserve old features or compatibility with older versions. But rest assured, we would not force OS upgrades just for upgrades' sake. Every new version is carefully considered along with its impact on existing customers.

    Thank you,

    Kevin
