I am getting an error message that 1 Password failed to connect to 1 Password mini. I tried restarting as suggested in the error message.

I'm unclear whether you re-started 1P or rebooted the machine. If you didn't reboot please try that. If that doesn't work please post again and tell us:

    1. the version of 1P you are using (go to 1P > About 1Password and tell us what it says there):
    2. the OS X version number you're using.

  • Hi @Arcticmist‌,

I'm sorry that you're running into this issue. This is almost always caused by there being more than 1 instances of the 1Password app on your Mac. When 1Password launches it needs to connect to the mini as that's where the majority of the work happens. In cases such as these, the system launches the wrong mini for us, then denies us access to it (for security reasons), so it gets stuck in a loop asking the system to launch our mini. I recommend that you do a spotlight search on your Mac for '1Password' and ensure that only a single instance shows up. Once you've trashed the others, and emptied the trash, I recommend a reboot which will cause OS X to forget all about the old version and should cause it to launch the correct mini for us.

I have rebooted the computer multiple times. I am on OS X 10.9.5, I can't get to 1Password so I can't tell you what version it is. I have also used spotlight as suggested and confirmed that I only have one instance installed. Any new ideas?

I just found a way to get 1password 4 version, it is 4.4.3.

  • Hi @Arcticmist,

OK. It's possible that the system isn't quite doing its job right, and isn't launching the mini on our behalf. So here's what we should try next:

    • Drag 1Password 4 to the trash. Just the app itself. Do not use any type of 'app cleaner' or anything like that. Just trash the app itself.
    • Empty the trash.
    • Reboot your system
    • Download 1Password 4.4 from our Downloads Page (it'll be near the bottom under Legacy).
    • Drag it into /Applications

Now try launching it. This should have caused launchd to look inside of the app and find that the mini exists again.

If this doesn't work, the next step would be to get a Diagnostics Report from you so that we can look at logs to see if they shed any light on what's going on. To do that, simply follow the instructions on this page.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Rick
