Selecting the right version (4 Mavericks, 5 Yosemite)

From light reading on these forums I get the impression that 5 only works with Yosemite and if you run Mavericks you need 1Password 4.

Are they available on the same license or do we need to buy older licenses? We are about to buy a bunch of 1Password licenses here and I want to be clear on this before I take the plunge. Is there an upgrade cost we should consider?

The 1P4 licence also works to licence 1P5. That means that if you have a 1P4 licence it will also operate to licence 1P5 if and when you upgrade to Yosemite (so there's no 1P upgrade cost between the two versions). 1P5 for Mac does require Yosemite: that is correct.

Does that answer your questions adequately? If not, please post again.

As a bonus, do bear in mind that if you are ever going to need to use iCloud to sync 1P data between a Mac and an iOS device you must buy 1P for Mac from the Mac App Store (because that version supports iCloud sync) and not direct from the AgileBits store (because that version doesn't, following changes made by Apple). Both versions support sync of 1P data by Dropbox or local wifi.

Thank you for the comprehensive information. Apple sure loves complicating matters recently. I think I'll be going with the AgileBits-bought version either way.
