migrating from 3.7 to 5

I have both 1password pro version 3.7 and 1password 5. I can't seem to get my data to transfer. Can you help? I've tried using your knowledge base but it doesn't seem to be working. Could it be a difference from 3.7 to 3.7.2? If so is their anyway of updating to save myself a lot of time typing?

    Hi @Jhuber, welcome to the forums!

    I'm sorry you're having trouble with this! Your guess is correct - the import option won't work with version 3.7, so you'll need to update to 3.7.2. However, version 3.7.2 won't appear in the Updates section of the App Store. What you'll need to do is backup your 1Password 3 data first, delete version 3.7 in order to download 3.7.2, restore your data from the backup, and finally import the data to 1Password 5. But don't worry, it should actually be fairly easy!

    You'll need access to a computer (either Mac or Windows) in order to make the backup, and your device and computer will need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. When you're ready, go ahead and follow these steps:

    • Make a backup of your 1Password 3 data by following the steps here.
    • You should now have a .1ptbackup file saved on your computer - make sure you know where this file is, and keep it safe!
    • Go to App Store > Updates > Purchased (or on an iPad, just App Store > Purchased) and search for 1Password there. Make sure version 3 appears in your purchase history. If it does not, stop here and let us know.
    • Assuming 1Password 3 is listed in your purchase history, close the App Store, then delete 1Password 3 from your device.
    • Go back to App Store > Updates > Purchased, find 1Password 3, and tap the cloud icon to reinstall it.
    • Open 1Password 3 and set up the Unlock Code and Master Password (if it prompts you to import, tap Later).
    • Restore your data to 1Password 3 by following the steps for Restoring Data from a Backup.

    At this point your data should be restored to 1Password 3. If so, continue with the following steps:

    • Double-click the Home button on the device and swipe up on 1Password 3 and 1Password 5 to close those apps.
    • Open 1Password 3 again, and this time choose to import data to the new version.

    You should now have your data in 1Password 5 on your iOS device. Please let us know how it all goes and if you have any questions. Thanks! :)
