Migrating Data
Hi,
I've was a 1P v3 Pro on iOS for a long time.
When 1P v4 came out, I bought Pro and tried to upgrade. It would always pop up a dialog saying it would launch 1Pv3 which would then pop up a dialog asking for permission to migrate the data. It never did pop up that dialog. So, I just stuck with using 1P v3 and never upgraded (both were on my phone but I'd only start v3).
Now, my phone's state got messed up. I went to Apple and they said I needed to do a complete reset. That means I can't restore from backup or the crashes will return.
Before I did that, I wanted to find a way to get my 1P v3 DB off my phone. I tried Dropbox, but apparently the Dropbox sync API it used was deprecated so I can't log in to Dropbox with 1P v3. I also tried Wifi sync: I downloaded 1P v3 for the Mac. It sees the phone, but it don't sync over wifi: It never asks me for the magic phrases.
So, I've wiped my phone, but I need all my passwords. I can't have ~500 passwords to my whole life lost forever.
How do I go about this? I found the SQLLite DB (I think) for 1P in Backup/Application support and extracted it. If there's a way (and IPA or something) to load 1P v3 on my device, that'd work. Or if there's a way to migrate my data to v5 from my v3 backup, that'd work. Or, I can restore my phone from backup and see what I can do there and then later re-restore my working image.
I'm happy to pay for support or whatnot too--it's just important I get the data!
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi @dgould,
I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having getting your data migrated into the latest version of 1Password.
You mention wiping your phone, but did you by chance do any backups beforehand - either of 1Password in particular or of your entire device?
If there's a way (and IPA or something) to load 1P v3 on my device, that'd work.
You can simply reinstall 1Password 3 for iOS from the App Store. In Updates, tap on 'Purchases'.
If you created a backup of your 1Password data before wiping your device, here's how to restore it, and get it imported into the latest version:
- Be sure that 1Password 5 for iOS is not running (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137).
- Go to App Store > Purchased (on iPhone go to App Store > Updates > Purchased) and search for 1Password there. Tap the cloud icon to re-download.
- Open 1Password 3 for iOS, and set up the same passcode and Master Password as you had before.
- If you get prompted to import, tap that you will do it later, but do not tap that you never want to see the prompt again.
- Restore the .1ptbackup file according to the restore instructions here.
- Close 1Password 3 for iOS from the multitasking view. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137
- Launch 1Password 5 for iOS - it should detect your data in 1Password 3 and offer to import.
- You can also launch 1Password 3 for iOS, and tap that you want to begin the import when you are prompted.
Please let me know if this helps!

I definitely backed up the device. Thank you--I'll try this.

I don't see how I get a .1ptbackup file out of 1P v3. It doesn't seem to be able to connect with Dropbox or Wifi sync. Is there another way to save a .1ptbackup file?
Thanks

Hi @dgould,
I'm a bit confused about whether or not you've already erased your iPhone, and if you have a backup file for your 1Password data. Do you currently have 1Password 3/Pro installed on your iPhone, and does it still have your data? If so, you should be able to follow the steps here to save a backup file (i.e. the .1ptbackup file) to your computer.
If you're able to do that, and you have the .1ptbackup file saved on your computer, then you can erase your iPhone, reinstall 1Password 3/Pro from your list of purchased apps in the App Store, and then restore your data by following the restore instructions here.
On the other hand, if you already erased your iPhone before saving a .1ptbackup file to your computer, you should still be able to extract your 1Password data file from an iTunes backup. If I understand your original message, it sounds like maybe you already did that? If not, please follow the steps here to extract a copy of the 1password.sqlite file from the iTunes backup. The instructions on that page will also lead you to steps to restore your data from that file.
If you have any trouble, please let us know if you've already erased your iPhone, if you have 1Password 3/Pro and your data on the iPhone, which steps you followed to backup/restore, and exactly what happened when you tried that. Thanks!

Hi Drew,
Thanks so much. While I could restore my phone from the backup, your 2nd way sounds a lot easier. So, I extracted the 1password.sqlite to my desktop. Then, on the instrctions, it says to check out
When I attempt to view that page (https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/12049/how-to-back-up-your-1password-data-on-the-ios-devices-before-upgrading-your-ios), I just see
"Permission Problem
You don't have permission to do that."Really appreciate all the help!

Sorry about that Dan. I've copied and pasted the instructions here:
We always recommend that you backup your 1Password data at any chance you can get. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
Before upgrading your iOS version, please take every precaution to ensure you have a current backup of your data.
If you’re syncing with 1Password for Mac or Windows, 1Password should already be handling that for you as long as the Backups feature was not turned off. We’d recommend that you check again just to be sure. Please read the sections below to configure your backups.
If you don’t have either of those apps, 1Password for iOS has it own Backup & Restore feature that you can use.
1Password for Mac
- To Back up now: Open 1Password and go to the File Menu > Backup Data File
- To Configure the Backups: Open 1Password and go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Backups.
- Backups in 1Password 3.9: 1Password from the Mac App Store already backs up your data automatically and retain the most recent 30 backups at any given time
1Password for Windows
- To Back up now: Open 1Password, unlock and go to the Backup menu > Back Up 1Password Data
- To Configure the Backups: Open 1Password, unlock, press the Preferences button and go to the Backup section

Hi @dgould,
Sorry for the confusion about that! As it turns out, the link that isn't working for you would lead you back to this page with the restore instructions, so you can just follow the steps there to restore from that file.
Please let us know how it goes!

Ah, I didn't realize .sqlite == 1.ptbackup. Got it (and moved to v5). Thanks so much!
