For my Dad - Typing is a challenge. Touch on iPhone works most of the time, but is a challenge with shaking, but again is acceptable. Is 1password always linked to the touch controls or does a master password need to be entered? If entered how often? Thanks.

The master password needs to be entered whenever Touch ID fails or the device is reset. There is also supposed to be a maximum time period between which it will have to entered again, regardless of those other two conditions, but I don't know how long that interval is. Perhaps two weeks. If Touch ID is unreliable for your father, he may have to reenter the master password often. It only takes one failure before the master password is required again.

You would need to go into the 1Password settings to activate Touch ID for it, as well as have Touch ID active for the entire device from the iOS setup screens.

You don't say whether he's using an iPad, iPod, or iPhone, but there are several versions of all three that don't have the hardware needed for Touch ID to work at all. You probably already know that, but I thought I'd just toss that out to be sure.

I hope that is somewhat helpful. Sympathy for his challenges.

Thank-You - very useful response. It is the iPhone.

@JimO - I suspect that your dad already has Touch ID, or you wouldn't be asking about it, but just in case, his iPhone has to be a 5s or later for it to have Touch ID.
