Shared vault wants a password I didn't set

I use 1 password on a Mac, iPhone and iPad. I noticed today that my Shared Vault hadn't been syncing on my iPad . I tried to get it to link with Dropbox, but couldn't. So I deleted the vault and tried to re-add it. It asked for a vault password, and gave a hint that means nothing to me.

I set up the shared vault (but can't remember setting a password), but the password hint for the shared vault is for the other persons Master Password.

What am I supposed to do? I shouldn't have to ask them for their password - it defeats the security of 1 password.

I am having the same problem. I have checked and I have ios 8.1.2 and 1password 5.1.2. I have tried restaring the ipad; no help.

  • @bilbomacuser‌ it sounds like another person set up the vault and is sharing it with you. Is this correct? Based on that, the other person should have entered a password and hint for that vault when they created it. It should have a different password than their primary vault (their master password) but they may have entered the same password and same hint.

Since you deleted the vault and tried to re-add it, it will ask for the password for that vault. It needs it in order to read the items inside.

You will need to go to the other person and get the password for their second vault (the one they are sharing with you). If they do not wish to share the password with you, then they will need to set up sync on your device for you.

If they don't know the password for that vault, then the solution is to make a new vault and copy the items into the new vault. When everything is working, then you can delete the older vault.

If you need directions for this, please let us know.
