Dropbox not recognized as running on OS X

On the data file preferences, when I clicked "Move to dropbox", I got a message saying that dropbox wasn't running.
I moved my data file manually inside the dropbox folder and then chose that file.

All seems to be working but I figured I'd report the issue.

When I go to the "sync|dropbox" screen, it gives inconsistent messaging:

Dropbox installed: Yes
Dropbox Running: No
Dropbox is syncing all your 1Password data

Again, things seem to be working despite the inconsistencies. And given this is a security product I would prefer that it have consistent messaging.

Running:

1password 3.8.22 (build 32010)
OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25)

Thanks,

Christian

    Hi @chrisrauh‌

I suspect the issue at hand is age. 1Password 3 was really last updated back in early 2013, well before the release of even Mavericks. I don't have a suitable environment to test my theory with but if Dropbox has changed aspects such as where it is installed or the name of the process then 1Password 3 would no longer be able to identify it. I apologise as I don't see this being patched now.

Since 1Password 3 we've now released two new major versions in 1Password 4 and 5. Now 1Password 4 is a paid upgrade from 1Password 3 but if you purchase from our store your existing licence key can be used to obtain an upgrade discount and 1Password 5 is a free update for any 1Password 4 user. If iCloud Sync support is something you deem important then you would need to purchase 1Password from Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) but we're unable to offer a discount there due to the functionality simply not existing. Of course you are under no obligation to do so and are free to continue using 1Password 3, I only wanted to make you aware of the newer versions that were written with the more recent versions of OS X in mind. While your licence for 1Password 3 is for life, what you may find is with each newer version of OS X that more functionality ceases to work due to changes.

If you have any questions as a result of this explanation please do ask.

Hi @littlebobbytables‌ - that is very helpful, I'll see if I can upgrade to a newer version.

Glad I could help. Just to reiterate, you're certainly not obliged to upgrade and don't forget that you can try 1Password 5 out for 30 days if you download it from our AgileBits Download page. It will pick up your vault in Dropbox and simply ask you for your existing Master Password. That way you can decide what you think of our new version
