Free Version
So, I am still under the understanding that I am using the free version on my Mac and IOS devices. Today, a "trial expired, click here to buy" message popped up on 1password mini. Should I just ignore that?
I have been of the understanding all along that there would be a charge only if upgrading to the PRO version, which I do not need.
What has happened here that I have missed?

@Wendell McAskill I've moved your post from the Lounge to the 1P for Mac forum, where you'll get more help. For a start please read the sticky at the top of this forum.
For the avoidance of doubt, there is no "free version" of 1P for Mac. If you download from the AgileBits store (not from the Mac App Store) you will have a 30 day trial version.

I did get the free version from the app store, yet I am still getting the trial expired warning

This is a copy and paste from that sticky:
Are you using the Mac App Store version?
Awesome, you don't need an AgileBits license and you will not see a "Trial Expired" notice. Apps from the Mac App Store are tied to your Apple ID.

My understanding all along has been that there is a charge for the "pro" version because of some extra features. I do not need the pro version, or have been drastically mislead!

The free version from the App Store is for iOS.
There is no free version for the Mac.
If you are getting "trial expired" it is likely that you downloaded the trial version direct from AgileBits.
In that case you need to buy, either from them or from the Mac App Store. The advantage of buying from the App Store is that you get the option of iCloud sync, which is not available in the direct version. The disadvantages of buying from the App Store are a slightly slower update process (about a couple of weeks while Apple is approving the upgrade) and a one-time adjustment of setting up.
Note that Apple has two App Stores, which creates confusion. One is for the Mac, the other for iOS.

Here is a direct quiote from one of your own notifications:
"Are you using the Mac App Store version?

@Wendell McAskill I have merged the two separate threads you started about the same issue. It is helpful to keep the discussions in one place.
There is no "free" version of 1P for Mac as I said before.
"Are you using the Mac App Store version?

That will be because someone has bought the Mac App Store version. The "trial expired" notice will not happen in the case of that version. If you see that message it is most likely because you have not purchased 1P for Mac—either from the Mac App Store or direct from the AgileBits store. If you have in fact bought it from one or other then there may be a licence problem which someone can resolve for you.
My understanding all along has been that there is a charge for the "pro" version because of some extra features. I do not need the pro version, or have been drastically mislead!
There are two separate versions of 1P and I think you are confusing them. 1P for iOS is a free app for your iOS devices, but with an in-app purchase to enable pro features. 1P for Mac is purchased either from the Mac App Store or from the AgileBits store. There are no "pro" features in 1P for Mac and hence there is no additional purchase once you have bought 1P for Mac.

You've had a couple of responses from our very knowledgeable moderators so I'm just really covering what they have already.
1Password is licenses per platform. In Apple's ecosphere that is iOS and OS X, one mobile platform and one for laptops and desktops.
To confuse matters Apple does tend to use the phrase App Store in both but they are very separate.
- iOS apps are purchase from the iTunes store, titled App Store if you purchase directly on your iOS device. These purchases only apply to your iOS device.
- OS X Applications are purchased from the Mac App Store (MAS), titled App Store on your Mac. These purchases only apply to your Mac machines running OS X.
So a licence for one does not apply to the other. To further the confusion you can view all MAS and iTunes purchases from within iTunes. These are Apple's design decisions though but I wouldn't be surprised if it causes confusion for any software available on both.
I hope you find a suitable password manager if you feel ours is not to your tastes or financial requirements.

According to this, what functionality will I have?
The application downloaded from our website will remain fully functional for the first 30 days after you install it. After this initial trial period, you will need to purchase a license to continue using without restrictions.0 -
Basically, if you download from Agile's web site, after 30 days 1PW is still usable but you cannot add any new passwords.
30 days should be enough to try it out, and then you can decide whether to buy direct from Agile or from Apple's App Store or not at all.

Also after the 30 free trial is over, you will not be able to edit the records you already created. your passwords that are stored there, however, remain safe and available to you.

Thanks @danco!
@Wendell McAskill, to be a bit more specific: After the 30 day trial period is over in 1Password for Mac, you won't be able to add more than 20 total items to 1Password. Once you purchase a license, you can simply activate 1Password with a license key and it will become fully functional again.
Keep in mind that this only applies to the Mac version of 1Password. On iOS, 1Password 5 is a free app with free basic features (and has an option to purchase Pro Features).
I hope this helps to clear up the confusion, but please let us know if you have more questions. We're always happy to help!
