iPad not syncing

I use Dropbox sync for my iPhone and iPad. Today I discovered that I have a login that is on my phone but not my iPad. No error message, zip, it just doesn't sync.

    Hi @Jeffg53‌

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password right now. In order to get this sorted out, I'll need to know a little bit more about your 1Password ecosystem:

    • What are the version numbers of 1Password and your operating system for all computers and devices running 1Password?

The more detail you can provide, the more quickly we'll be able to get you sorted out! :)

    Hi Megan,

My iMac is 10.9.5 running 1Password 4 Version 4.4.3, my iPhone and iPad are both running IOS 8.1.2 and 1Password 5.1.2

  • First, check to make sure your Mac and iPhone has all of your 1Password data. Your Mac should also have that login that is on your iPhone. Assuming that is true, then we can reset all of the data on the iPad and start from scratch.

    • make a backup on your Mac by going to Backups in the Preferences and clicking Backup Now.

    • On your iPad, open 1Password and tap Settings > Advanced > Erase Data and Settings - this will remove all 1Password data from your iPad, but leave the app.

    • Restart the iPad.

    • Go back into 1Password on the iPad and re-enable Dropbox sync. That should fix it. If you have any trouble, let us know.

That fixed it, thanks. I discovered that my iPhone was wrong too.. My Mac had 218 login items, phone, 201 and iPad 194. Sounds like an area for improvement?

    Hi @Jeffg53,

I'm so glad to hear that Kevin's instructions got things sorted out for you. I hope that 1Password works perfectly for you from now on, but if you have any further questions or concerns, we're here for you!

  • Have a similar problem. I am running 1Password on an iMac (Yosemite), iPhone 6 (8.1.2) and an iPad (8.1.2). My syncing is via Dropbox. After following Kevin's instructions on both my iPhone and iPad, syncing is working again. However, there are discrepancies in the item accounts, both between the iMac (total 702) vs 700 on both iPhone and iPad, and between the counts on the iPhone and iPad summaries and actual number of entries within some categories. Also, on both iPhone and iPad when viewing syncing window, the "Items" count horizontal bar hops every second. Is this a bug or a feature? Thanks.

  • Hi there,

What counts does 1PasswordAnywhere show? http://learn2.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Tutorials/ios-1pa.html

Additional information on this syncing problem:

I had a similar syncing issue between my iMac, iPad and iPhone, syncing through Dropbox.

Dropbox sync (other than the 1Password sync) was working fine; new files and folders (not associated with 1Password) entered in the Mac appeared right away in the iPad and iPhone Dropbox folders. 1Password in the Mac worked fine; new entries auto-filled appropriately in the respective website login pages. New 1Password entries in the Mac did not sync with the iPad or iPhone, however.

I noticed that the last 1Password sync for the iPad occured on November 19th (as indicated in the 1Password settings). This happens to be the same day that my iPad was replaced by Apple for a hardware problem. The iPad was restored (all settings, data and apps) from an iCloud backup of the old iPad.

The last 1Password sync for the iPhone was 2 weeks ago. This happens to be the same time that I bought the new iPhone 6+. It was activated and restored (all settings, data and apps) from my old iPhone iCloud backup.

In other words, the sync problem for each device occurred at the same time that the new devices were activated and restored from iCloud backups of the previous devices. I don't think that this is a coincidence.

The fix described by Hayesk in post #5 above fixed the problem. The 1Password data and settings on each IOS device were erased, the device was restared, and the 1Password vault and settings were re-synced, after which everything worked fine.

My theory is that restoring the iPhone and iPad from a backup did not set up the 1Password app correctly. 1Password in the IOS devices apparently corrected itself readily after erasing all of the old data and settings.

My recommendation for any syncing issues would be to simply follow the above procedure (erase data/settings, restart and re-sync), after ensuring that at least one device (in my case, the Mac), was working normally and had a local backup.
