How can I put my backup file on a diet? Each of the zips is around 223MB even though I only have 380 logins saved.

    Hi @redgc,

You're right, that definitely seems a bit large for a backup file! It's possible for that to be the correct size, but normally I would expect it to be much smaller. Can you let us know a few more details about your setup:

    • What version of 1Password are you using on your Mac? Backup files for version 3 were often larger than backup files for version 4 or 5, due to an option to download previews for Login items.

    • Do you have multiple vaults in 1Password? A backup file includes all vaults you have in 1Password, not just your Primary vault. If you have multiple vaults, you should see them by going to the menu for 1Password > Switch to Vault (this only applies to 1Password 4 and 5).

    • Aside from your 380 login items, do you have a lot of items in other categories? Or is 380 the number of "All Items"?

    • Do you add attachments to your items in 1Password? If so, the size of the attachments might be the cause of the large backup files.

    • Do you have many items in the Trash in the 1Password app? When you delete items from 1Password, they stay in the Trash until you empty it. Click on "Trash" in the sidebar of 1Password to see if you have a lot of items there.

    Thanks!

Answers to your questions, in order:

    • Version 5.0.2 for Mac
    • I'm only aware of one vault, and there is no "Switch to vault" option shown to me in the menu
    • All Items = 393
    • I've never knowingly added attachments
    • Nothing in trash. There was previously about 1000 there and I expected clearing that would solve my problem but it hasn't. Size of the backup basically didn't change.

Also 1Password mini is using up nearly 1GB of compressed memory. I assume the two problems may be related?

    Hi @redgc,

The large size of your backups may also be due to extremely long Secure Notes, do you think that this could be causing it?

I don't think that the compressed memory usage has anything to do with your large backup sizes.

In order for us to further investigate this issue, can you please send us a Diagnostics Report from your Mac, along with a link to this topic and your forum username, to support+forum@agilebits.com?  A brief comment here mentioning that you've sent the report would also be helpful.

Once we see the report we'll be able to better assist you.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi @redgc,

Thanks for sending that Report in! I took a quick look in our system, but I was unable to find an email from the address you attached to your forum account. If you could send me a private message with the address that you used to send in the Report, I'd be happy to track it down and ensure that it gets answered quickly. :)

Just for reference, I have 65 items, 47 of which are logins. Each of my backups is 2M.
