Ben: 2 computers, one w/ 5.1 BETA-32 & 4.4.1 from Agile, Second w/4.4.3 & 5.0.2 a mess
Hi,
As in subject:
- I purchased 1Password 4 from Agile. It still works fine. Then I was offered 5.1 BETA, which I installed. Now 1Password 5 says "Trial Expired" and gives me limited access (I can view but cannot make changes or new entries).
When I purchased second computer I installed 1Password 4, then upgraded to 5. 1Password 4 runs (won't lock screen, but otherwise works fine). 1Password 5 upgrade offered (free), I installed. Now on 1Password 5 I get the following message, but then opens the 5 window and I have same limited access:
Applications/1Password 5.app/Contents/LoginItems' it started '~/Downloads/1Password 5.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems'.
Please make sure you have only one copy of 1Password on your Mac.
So I took 4 to trash, and still get that message. I've taken 5 to trash, tried to reinstall.
I've tried everything I can think of and at every juncture it says "Trial Expired." -- even though full 4 has worked for months.
Thank you!
Tom

Hi @Haightmale,
Thanks for writing in. It sounds to me like you're running into two different issues combined. So let's tackle them independently.
First up: Trial Expired.
There was a bug in 1Password 4 where in some cases it was running fine without having a license installed. So let's start by seeing if the license was installed on version 4 by going into the 1Password > License... menu item. If the license was installed, then in theory 1Password 5 should have picked it up and set it up for you. If not, then we can do it manually. To do it manually:
- Open a new Finder window
- Use the Go > Go to Folder... menu item
- Copy paste the following:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/License
- Click 'Go'
- There should be a 'License.onepassword-license' file. Copy that to your desktop.
- Double click it from the desktop.
- 1Password 5 should accept it if you use the 'Add License...' button in the License window.
Next: the 'Please make sure you only have one copy of 1Password' message.
You should do a search for
1Password
in spotlight, and move any other instances of 1Password 4 or 5 to the trash except for the one you want to use. Then empty the trash, and reboot your Mac. This should solve the issue. The reboot is important as OS X has to rebuild one of the databases which likes to stay cached beyond when you would expect it to.Let us know how this goes.

Hi, as in title, but when I try to delete and re-download, AppStore says "Downloaded" and won't let me download it again no matter what deleting gymnastics I try. Please help! Thank you very much. Tom

Hi Rick, I posted another request for help tonight--I didn't see your reply. I apologize.
So, when I copied "~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/License" into the Go To Folder window, the response I get is "The folder can't be found" and I can't get to the next step in your instructions ("There should be a 'License.onepassword-license' file. Copy that to your desktop"). So I'm stuck.
You're correct: I have 1Password 4 and 1Password 5 installed on two computers. The trial versions of each work fine, but I get the "Trial Expired" message for each program on both computers.
I do appreciate your getting back to me. Of course there's no need to respond to the message I posted tonight.

Your title is a little cryptic: please explain the problem more fully.
What version of 1P 5.2 do you have: that from the Mac App Store or that from the AgileBits store? (You can check by going to 1P5 > About 1Password and telling us exactly what it says there).
Do you still have a beta version of 1P on your Mac in addition to a version downloaded from the Mac App Store?
The 'trial expired" message can relate only to a version of 1P from the AgileBits store: see this sticky at the top of the forum. That's why I'm trying to understand exactly what versions of 1P you have currently on your machine.

@Haightmale I posted a reply then saw you were dealing with the same problem in another thread. To avoid the trap into which I fell I've merged the threads so all information is in one place. I think for the moment you should ignore my reply—which was given without seeing your other post.

Hi @Haightmale
Wow, this seems to be pretty messy.
I think the fastest route to resolving this is a diagnostic report.
I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac.
Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please include the following in your email.
- How many vaults you have any and how many items you should have in each.
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
Once you've sent the Report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!
