Currently at Wit's End Trying to Restore Data

My wife is one of the iOS users who has not upgraded to iOS 8 yet due to the install size issue. She accidentally deleted 1Password from her phone and asked me to fix it for her. What I've discovered:

  1. The current version of 1Password does not work with iOS 7
  2. I've followed the steps and have a previous version on the phone
  3. Version 4 is NOT the version she had, she had version 3 on the phone
  4. I have a 1ptbackup file with all of our information, but that version isn't readable by version 4
  5. The current Windows version of 1Password cannot read an 1ptbackup file

This, frankly, has been a total nightmare. I understand about interoperability between application versions, and sunsetting some features, but this is bordering on the verge of something Kafkaesque. I have a backup file. I should be able to restore it.

Please tell me there's some method to do this that is actually possible?

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble.

You used the phrase 'our data.' Do you each have the same data set? If so, what sync method were you using? If you were using Dropbox you should simply be able to set that up again in 1Password 4 for iOS on her device and be good to go. :)

Unfortunately it is true that only 1Password 3 for iOS can read 1ptbackup files, so if that is the only copy of the data that you have, you'd have to install 1Password 3 for iOS from her "Purchases" section of the App Store.

    Please let us know.
