iOS to Mac for first time

I have used iPassword for several years on my Iphone. Early on I did the backup with dropbox but apparently not for 2 plus years. Its sad to say but I do not use the app to its full extent, but it has been THE place I story everything. My iphone backs up the the cloud every day, and a few times a year I do a wired backup of my phone to MacBook (mainly to sync pics of kids, etc)

Last Thursday somehow I put my phone back in my pocket without closing the screen and I deleted the app. I went to the app store to re-load thinking icloud would bring it right back in and it did not. Brought in a clean version. I think discovered I did not have a recent drop box version but I did do a wired iphone back up a couple of months ago.

I had an extra iphone 5 laying around and installed that update onto this old phone. I bought the Mac Version of 1password with the intention of NOW backing up this iOS 1password into the cloud.

On phone I open the app, go to setting > sync > wifi > allow new connection, and it tells me to open 1password on your mac and to enter the codes. I cannot find where to enter them.

I just want to get all this information onto my iphone 6. HELP. PLEASE!!!

  • Note, reloading the app will not restore backed up data. You will need to perform a restore of the phone to do that. Note, it's all or nothing. So all apps will restore data from the last backup. You also need to reinstall app before you do the restore, so the iPhone has somewhere to put the data when it does the restore.

To help you get up and running, the 1Password data you want to use is on your iPhone 5, correct? What version of 1Password do you have on that iPhone, and what version do you have running on your Mac? Depending on the version of 1Password on your phone, you may need to upgrade it in order to sync with the Mac.

Thank you. Do I have to buy a new version or should it update with other Apps automatically ?

    The 5 has version 3.7.2

  • You may not have to buy the new version. It depends on what version you are running now. I basically need to know:

    • is the 1Password data you want to use now on your iPhone 5?
    • if so, what version of 1Password is running on that phone?
    • is the version on your Mac the latest version? (i.e. did you just buy it?)

On the iPhone 5 is 3.7.2 -- Yes the Data I need is on the 5
Yes, I just bought the Mac version today.

  • Thanks for the info. Yes, you will need to upgrade to version 5. It's a free download, and there is an in-app purchase if you wish to activate the pro features. So I recommend:

    1. Upgrade to version 5 on the iPhone 5. Information to do that is here: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios-kb/4/en/topic/upgrading-from-legacy-versions
    2. After upgrading to version 5 on your iPhone 5, setup sync. If you bought the Mac version on the Mac App Store, you can use iCloud or DropBox. If you bought the Mac version from the AgileBits Web Store, use DropBox. More info is available here: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios?v=5
    3. Install version 5 on the iPhone 6 - in the setup screen choose to Sync a new vault rather than create one. Choose iCloud or DropBox depending on which you setup in the previous step. After a few seconds, your iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 should have the same data.
    4. On your Mac, launch 1Password, and setup sync there. (In Preferences under sync) After a few seconds, it should have the same data as your iPhones. More info is available here: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac?v=5
