Missing automatic selection of Web site's login in 1Password (5) Mini [Resolved]

I recently upgraded from agilebits' 1Password 4.2 to the App Store's 1P 5 in order to keep using iCloud for synchronization.
Previously, 1P Mini would automatically show the icon for the login for the currently active Web login page in it's dropdown list when clicked. Now, it no longer does that.
I can still fill in the password with ⌘/, but I wonder if the absence of the current Web site's login icon in 1P Mini's dropdown menu is a feature or an indication that something's gone wrong in the upgrade or that something was lost in the update of the app's Preferences.

    Hi @milleron‌

Can you check a preference setting for me please. Open 1Password's preferences and in the General tab what is the state of the Use rich icons option? I suspect it is unchecked and that would cause a bunch of sites that used to have icons to be missing now. If I'm correct ticking it will restore them.

Let us know if that helps

I wasn't clear enough. I'm getting rich icons. What I'm missing is the icon & name of the Web site I have open when I access 1Password Mini's drop-down menu. For example, if I were trying to logon at Chase.com, Mini version 4.2 used to have "Chase" and it's icon at the top of that dropdown menu. After upgrading to 1Password 5, there's no entry at all. To get to the Chase login, I have to click "Logins" and scroll down to the entry I'm looking for

  • Hi @milleron,

Thanks for the clarification. That suggests 1Password mini is not getting the URL from the extension. That usually means an interference between the browser and 1Password mini.

Can you tell me which browser you're using and the 1Password extension version installed for that browser? The version is shown next to 1Password in your browser's extension settings.

Safari 8.0.3, and the extension is version 4.2.5 -- reinstalled a couple of times over the last few days with no change.

Parenthetically, 1Password 4.2 remained installed when I downloaded and installed 1Password from the App Store. I deleted the 1Password app from the Applications folder. I didn't find any "1Password Mini" app from the agilebits 4.2 version to uninstall. There are copies of the apps, I believe, on an attached external drive. Could this problem be resulting from an incomplete uninstallation of 4.2.x?

    HI @milleron,

I suppose that's possible, but what's more likely is that something on your Mac - another Safari extension or something else - is preventing 1Password from communicating with the Mini. Rather than waste your time by playing 20 Questions with you here, I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your Mac (you can ignore the part about filling in the code in the subject line)

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

A short note here once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

    Hi @milleron,

I took a quick look in our system, but I wasn't able to find an email from the address associated with your forum account. If you haven't received a reply to that email yet and want to make sure we've received it, please feel free to send me a private message with the email address you used to send it, and I'll be happy to track it down and ensure that it gets answered as soon as possible. Thanks!

    Hi @milleron,

I just replied to your message, and wanted to follow up here as well to confirm I found your diagnostics report email, and added some details from this discussion. You should hear back from someone as soon as possible. We'll keep the conversation going via email, thanks!

Thanks. Since then, I discovered yet another anomaly. I've now noted that the 1Password Mini apps from BOTH the AgileBits version 4.2 AND the App Store 5.1 are appearing in the Menu Bar after a restart. Uninstalling 1Password 4.2 did not uninstall 4.2 Mini. How would I get rid of that???

Hi @milleron I responded via email with a solution. Please handle ongoing correspondence there. Thanks!

That solution worked!! I now have but one iteration of 1Password Mini, AND the selected web page login IS displayed near the top of Mini's dropdown menu. As I mentioned in the PM, what did I do wrong in switching from the agilebits version to the App Store version (just in case others with the same problem come across this thread in a search).

    Thanks again!

    Hi @milleron,

You mentioned via PM that you had an outstanding question - my apologies for missing it!

what did I do wrong in switching from the agilebits version to the App Store version (just in case others with the same problem come across this thread in a search).

When switching between the webstore and the Mac App Store version of 1Password, it is important to ensure that both the main app and 1Password mini are quit. This can be done by using ⌘⌃Q ( Command-Control-Q ), or going to the 1Password > Quit 1Password menu - hold down the 'Control' key to change the "Quit 1Password" option to "Quit 1Password and 1Password mini". You can also look in Preferences > General and uncheck the option to ‘Always keep 1Password mini running’.

    I hope this helps!
