Master Password and PIN not aware of each other - get asked for both in a row [Resolved]

My understanding is that PIN is the primary tool to unlock the application when enabled. The Master Password password is a secondary login used only if the PIN fails.

What I am experiencing is being asked the PIN, then I enter the correct PIN, then I'm prompted for the Master Password, which I enter correctly to finally access the application. This is happening when I use the Safari Mobile feature or plungin of the iOS.

Is it supposed to be giving me a 'double-whammy' of having to enter both the PIN and Master Password back to back?

I forget the version information. iOS 8.1.3 , 1Password 5.2. This happens on my iPhone 5 and iPad Mini w/Retina.

  • Hi @komrad,

If you enter a PIN code and are then asked for your master password, it means the PIN code was incorrect. Normally, when entering the correct PIN, it should simply unlock your vault.

In 1Password, go to Settings > Security, then turn the PIN Code feature off and back on again. You'll need to set up a new PIN code for 1Password. The next time you're prompted to enter your PIN to unlock 1Password, does it work correctly, or are you still asked for your master password after the PIN?

I've reset the PIN on my iOS devices and now I'm waiting to see if the behavior changes. I would like to note that when I entered the PIN incorrectly, the screen would flash red and then prompt for the master password.

When I enter the PIN correctly, the screen does not flash red, but it prompts me for the master password all the same.

I'll monitor 1Password's behavior and post what I experience here.

  • Hi @komrad,

Let me know how it goes. It's possible that there's a bug with the PIN code.

The issue has not appeared since I change my PIN. It looks like that that was the issue. Thank you for your support!
