The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini.
Instead of '/Applications/1Password 5.app/Contents/LoginItems' it started '~/Downloads/1Password 5.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems'.
Please make sure you have only one copy of 1Password on your Mac.

I deleted the old 1Password 5.02 and replaced it with 5.1, but I get the above message. Also:
1 Password not taking my current password, but an old one. What's going on?

Are you quite sure you don't still have a copy of 1P in your Downloads folder? If you have, delete it from there, reboot and all should be well.

I deleted the old copy of 1P5 and have only the new one: 5.1. However, did the new version of 1P5 upgrade "Mini"? I have (on Safari): 4.2.5. And what's happening with the password recognition?

    Hi @dlm67,

The error message you're getting is actually due to a strange issue in Yosemite which causes it to open the wrong copy of 1Password mini. It can happen when Yosemite finds multiple copies of the 1Password app. According to the error message you included in your original post, you have one copy of 1Password 5 in the Applications folder, and another copy of 1Password 5 in your Downloads folder.

To solve the problem, simply delete the copy of 1Password 5.app from Downloads by dragging it to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning utilities), then empty the Trash. If it won't let you empty the Trash, please restart your Mac and try again to empty it. That should take care of the problem.

The 1Password extension in Safari is not actually the same thing as 1Password mini. The latest version of the extension is 4.2.5, so that's fine.

As for 1Password only accepting an older master password, when did that start happening? When did you last change your master password? Do you sync with 1Password on any other devices? If so, what sync method do you use, and on which device did you change your master password?

    Thanks!

Requiring my old password just started happening this morning on my MacBook Pro, but the new password is required on my iPhone 6 Plus. I haven't changed my master password in quite some time. I followed all your directions correctly.

Please help resolved this problem. My MacBook Pro requires the old password and my iPhone 6Plus requires the new password. Is this the way it's supposed to be with the upgrade? Two different passwords to remember?

    Hi @dlm67

If you can let us know what you're current sync method is and we can supply a set of steps to reset it once more. We've included a number of sync improvements in 5.1 so hopefully it's just a kick is required so everything works as intended.

    I sync with iCloud.

    Hi @dlm67,

Thanks! You can follow these steps to reset iCloud sync:

    On your iPhone:

    • Open 1Password and go to Sync > Sync Service > Disable Sync (confirm you want to disable it).
    • Go to Settings > Advanced > Erase iCloud Data (confirm you want to Reset iCloud Data).
    • Restart your iPhone.

    On your Mac:

    • Open 1Password and go to Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data.
    • Click the button for Yes, Remove Remote Data.
    • You should see a message that confirms the data was reset and sync was disabled (click OK).
    • Restart your Mac.

    On your iPhone:

    • Open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync > Start Syncing > Sync with iCloud.
    • Follow any additional steps to complete the setup, then allow the sync to complete.

    On your Mac:

    • Open 1Password and go to 1Password > Preferences > Sync.
    • Set up iCloud sync again - when asked for the vault password, it should be the one you use on your iPhone.
    • Once the sync completes, lock 1Password, then try to unlock with the same master password as on your iPhone.

If for some reason 1Password for Mac still requires your old master password, you just need to change the master password again (on either your Mac or iPhone). On your iPhone, you can "change" it to the same new one you've been using, and it should sync to your Mac (you may be required to unlock it on your Mac one more time with the old one). Or you can change it on your Mac so it matches your iPhone.

Please let us know how it goes and if you run into any problems with that. Thanks!

I couldn't be bothered with all those syncing steps, so I reset the password the new password and both synced through iCloud. Thank you.
