Fill current page with existing login?

I've been using 1Password for a few years, but there's this pattern I hit every couple of weeks that I haven't been able to work around.

It goes something like this:

  1. I go to a website where I have an account (vip.zappos.com in this case)
  2. I press cmd-/
  3. The extension window appears over the page
  4. I type 'zappos' to search my passwords
  5. I find one and hit enter (it's listed under 'Open Login' in the extension)

Now, Safari will open zappos in a new window (or in this case, fail to, because for some reason my password doesn't have a URL associated with it). Then I have to go back to the page and manually fill the password using copy and paste.

Am I crazy, or is the "new window" very undesirable? This is never the behavior I want, and even though I've probably done it one hundred times it surprises me and makes me angry every time.

What I really I want is something like: "Fill this webpage with this selected login" or something like that. Is there a way to do it? Without manually going through the app to correct the URLs of the passwords?

I'm using the extension in Safari, OS X 10.10.

    Hi @cageinsertion

Depending on how different these URLs are you might find the Lenient URL matching setting in the Browser tab of 1Password's preferences helps. Other than that though it will be a case of correcting URLs. If a URL doesn't match we open and fill rather than just fill and I don't see that changing for security reasons. If we allowed any Login item to fill into any page all of our customers would become far more susceptible to phishing sites, running contrary to our goal to make our users safer. I hope you understand.
