1P on iPad not syncing

Hi! I have 1P on my Mac and ipad. I am syncing to dropbox and lately it is not working for the ipad. I checked that the file extensions for the vault match on both units. I do not get any error messages when I try to sync but for some reason there are less logons on my ipad 1P than on my Mac.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi @bippedibopp,

Please try adding a Secure Note on your Mac titled "test from Mac" and another note on your iPad titled "test from iPad." Give them a couple minutes to sync, relaunch the 1Password app, and see if the test from the Mac appears on the iPad and vice versa.

Please let us know how that turns out.

    Ben

Hi and thanks for your quick response!
I see that on my iPad for the categories, logons is the only one showing. Secure notes, Identities or creditcards are not coming up as options (I had a look on the 1P version 5 guide for iOS.....oh.....and now I just tried (for the first time) to sync over wifi and that works. Logons, secure notes and passwords now show up in the categories on my iPad and the numbers all add up.

I now added the secure note on both units and they still will not sync using Dropbox. Any more tips will be appreciated.

    Dagny :)

  • Hi Dagny ( @bippedibopp )

Okay, thanks for the update. Sorry to hear this isn't working properly. What I would recommend is first making a backup of the data on your iOS device:

The Mac makes backups automatically (which you can view in File > Restore).

Then, if all of your data is present on the Mac, simply uninstall and reinstall the iOS app, and re-setup syncing.

If this is not the case (there is data you need to keep that only exists on iOS), then turn syncing off on both devices, then re-enable syncing on both devices. You will likely be prompted that the data is very different and there will be a recommendation that you not merge the data. In this case you'll need to select "merge anyway." Afterwards please review your items and make sure everything looks good and still works as expected.

    Thanks!

Ben, my issue seems to be similar. I have 1Password on my iMac and have installed 1Password app on my iPad 3. Trying to sync the data to my iPad via iCloud and I get the 'Existing Data Not Found' message on the iPad. Clicked on 'Get Help' and tried all that was suggested, but it still will not sync. Help please.

  • Good morning @johnnaismith and thanks for writing in. I'm sorry for the trouble you're having with iCloud sync on your iPad. Did the 'Get Help' button take you to our troubleshooting guide, here? https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios-kb/4/en/topic/icloud-sync-checklist-cloudkit

If not please take a moment to go through that.

One other thing you can check is to make sure both your Mac and iPad are logged into the same iCloud account. On your Mac you can check this in System Preferences > iCloud and on your iPad in Settings.app > iCloud.

I have checked everything that is suggested and no success. In desperation I created a new vault on my iPad. It did indicate it was syncing briefly but obviously there is no data in the new vault on the iPad. How can I remove the new vault? And then where to from there. I am keen to resolve this because I recently had a hard disk issue with my iMac and because 1Password was installed there I could not access my passwords.

    Hi @johnnaismith,

When you say you created a new vault in 1Password on your iPad, do you mean you set it up as a new user (since iCloud sync gave you an error)? If so, there's no option to delete that vault, but you can either delete & reinstall the 1Password app, or open 1Password and go to Settings > Advanced > Erase Data and Settings.

Once you reset the 1Password app on your iPad, do you still get the “Existing Data Not Found” error when trying to sync your vault from iCloud? If so, please take a look at this knowledgebase article. The steps there will hopefully take care of the problem, but if not, can you please let us know the following information:

    • What exact version of Mac OS X is your Mac running?
    • What version of 1Password do you have on your Mac? (From the 1Password app, go to 1Password > About 1Password in the menu bar.)
    • What exact version of iOS is running on your iPad?

    Thanks!

"but you can either delete & reinstall the 1Password app, or open 1Password and go to Settings > Advanced > Erase Data and Settings." Don't know how to do either of these. Presuming I am meant to these task, on the iPad. Answers to your questions: iMac => V.10.10.2; 1Password => V.5.1; iPad iOS => 8.1.3

    Hi @johnnaismith,

Sorry if I wasn't clear about that! You can delete 1Password by tapping & holding on the 1Password app on the Home screen of your iPad until all the apps start ti wiggle, then tap the 'x' on the 1Password icon. To reinstall it, open the App Store and go to Updates > Purchased, then find 1Password in your list of purchased apps and tap the cloud icon to download it.

Alternately, instead of deleting and reinstalling the 1Password app, you can open 1Password and go to Settings, then tap Advanced at the bottom of the Settings screen, then tap Erase Data and Settings at the bottom of the Advanced screen.

Let us know how it goes once you do that and try again to sync with iCloud.
