1Pass for Mac at home and Windows at work (using separate vaults)
Hi,
I have been using 1Password on my Mac at home for several years now. Recently, I've decided I need a password manager for my work computer (Windows). The thing is, I do NOT want my home/personal 1Pass information on my work computer; I only want work-related logins, etc. on that box. Is this possible to do if I buy the Mac/Windows bundle from the Agilebits store?
Also, I'd like my family to use 1Password for their home computers (Macs and 1 Windows computer). I know they can share my existing Mac license, but I'm also assuming that means they would be using the same password database/vault as I am (which is not what I want, as I have kids). If my family members each wanted their own 1Password database/vault of logins, would they each need to buy a single license or is this possible via sharing my existing license?
Thanks for your help,
Sandman7

Hi, Sandman7. You'll need the experts at Agilebits to explain the licensing option but I have a feeling it will require additional/ family licences, as it's not you but them using 1Password.
As for managing vaults, yes, that's what I do with my Mac at home and PC at work. I have different vaults for different circumstances and so only display that data. All data is synchronised all of the time but you'll only view what you want to see. Now that the Windows version offers vaults your desire for separated content is possible.
Hope that helps.0 -
The new licensing terms permit a single user license to be used by up to six family members in the same household. That would apply to the Mac and Windows versions. If you already have a Mac license and purchased from the AgileBits web store, you should get a discounted price for the Windows version. You would not need to buy a separate Mac + Windows license. I don't see any reason why you couldn't keep an entirely separate vault on your Windows box at work.
And, your family members don't have to share a single vault. Each person can set up an entirely separate installation, including keeping the data separate from each other. Families often want to share some, but not all, of their data. Setting up a separate secondary vault to share can make that happen.

@bottleneck and hawkmoth - Thanks for the quick and detailed replies. Based on the information you provided, it looks like I am OK to move forward with my plan to upgrade to the Mac/Windows bundle (I have a license for 1Password 3 and my 1Password 5 trial just expired), which is great news.
I wish all forums could be this helpful!

The upgrade from version 3 to version 5 for Mac will require an upgrade payment. I'm not sure how that will interact with the Mac + Windows bundle pricing. But I expect the web site will tell you when you enter the license key for your copy of version 3.

Hi guys,
But I expect the web site will tell you when you enter the license key for your copy of version 3.
Correct, we do offer bundle upgrade discounts, and that'll show up when entering the license key at the store here: https://agilebits.com/store/upgrade
The store will also offer discounts on non-bundle licenses as well.
You'll need the experts at Agilebits to explain the licensing option but I have a feeling it will require additional/ family licences, as it's not you but them using 1Password.
There is no family license anymore at our store, all licenses are family licenses with up to 6 family members in the same household that can share the same license, just like the licensing model at Apple's App Stores.

That's great. Many thanks for the information. :)
