Can you tell us what version of 1Password you have? The behavior you describe sounds like you have a trial version that has expired. When the free trial period ends, you can view your data, but you can't add new information or edit existing records.
Where did you buy your copy? If you bought it from the AgileBits web store, you should have received an email message with instructions for applying the license code (if you are using version 3) or license file (if you have version 4 or 5). If you bought it from the Mac App Store, there isn't a license to apply. Licensing is handled by Apple and is tied to your Apple ID.

What happens when you try to save a login? Do you get an error message?

This was posted in the 1PW for iOS forum. Hawkmoth's reply is about 1PW for Mac, where the situation is understood.
So do make clear whether you are referring to iOS or Mac OS.
