Adding second vault to Iphone

I purchased the PRO version of 1Password (all 9.99 of it) for the sole purpose of being able to have multiple vaults. After realizing I can not add them from phone, I found where it said I had to do it from my PC. OK no biggie I can wait a little while until I am at my PC. Well I tried to add the second vault via my PC (running trial version) and instead of syncing the second vault, it just added the test log in I put in there to my primary vault.

I looked through the forum and saw someone else having an issue similar and a community member stated that you cant sync multiple vaults from Windows? Is this true, did I really just waste 10 bucks.

And no I do not want to sync using Dropbox. Any help if greatly appreciated.

    Hi @lord_Tombs,

Prior to 1Password 5.2 for iOS there was only one way to synchronise secondary vaults with another copy of 1Password and that was using Dropbox. With the release of 5.2 for iOS Mac users gained a second way to do so, through the enhanced Wi-Fi Sync support now in 5.1 for Mac and 5.2 for iOS. At this moment these are the only two ways of of syncing secondary vaults.

Sadly that does mean that if your stance on Dropbox is quite firm that there isn't a way for you to sync secondary vaults. The Windows version of 1Password works quite differently to that of 1Password on iOS and Mac. The former operates on the .agilekeychain or .opvault file directly and you only ever have one open at a time. The latter (both platforms) maintain a single sqlite database file that houses all the secondary vaults in conjunction with the primary, using the .agilekeychain and .opvault files for syncing. The result is it would be a significant amount of effort before Windows would be able to replicate this particular piece of functionality.

I apologise that it isn't better news.

You should really update your online FAQ's to reflect that short coming a LOT better. Nothing of what I saw when looking into pro even raises a concern that it would not work the way advertised on a window's machine. Nor does it show (at least that I saw) that Dropbox HAD to be used. I can tell you this while I really do like the product this is a huge disappointment and will definitely keep me from recommending it to friends.

    Hi @lord_Tombs,

If you researched the Pro features and came to the wrong conclusions then yes, we've done you a disservice. Looking at our Pro Features FAQ I see we state

    Accessing and syncing multiple vaults

but don't elaborate on this. In the iTunes description I read

    Multiple and Shared vaults

Now I know one issue with iTunes is there is a size limit for the description.

Was there anywhere else you found references to just in case I've missed one.

I am sorry you feel disappointed by 1Password, I hope we can reverse that disappointment over time as we continue to work on all the platforms.

    https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/settings-vaults

"What do you do if you want to keep your personal and work information kept apart, share logins with a team of people, or keep an archive of old information you don’t use anymore? Use different vaults for different purposes! If you’ve unlocked 1Password’s Pro Features, you can access and edit multiple vaults on your iOS device.

Note: New vaults must be created from either 1Password 4 for Windows or Mac. Once a vault is created and synced to your iOS device, you can use it the same way you use your primary vault"

The link does provide more information referencing Dropbox, however no where does it say that you can only do it with dropbox or a mac.

disappointed is the wrong word, I feel swindled period. You should seriously consider putting some kind of warning to review the FAQ's if you are using windows, and make the FAQ's more clearly state that it is either MAC or DB period.

Thank you for the dialogue and not simply blowing off the comment.

Is the dev team working on adding the dual vault functionality to windows, or is not even on the road map yet?

    Hi @lord_Tombs,

Thank you, I've added that to the ticket as well to ensure all three are updated at the same time so as to keep the message coherent.

I do understand your view. My own personal preference is not to use cloud services either. I fully trust the encryption present in 1Password but I just don't want to use cloud services. Until 1Password 5.2 for iOS and 5.1 for Mac came along I had this convoluted and odd way of keeping two vaults on my Mac while still keeping everything accessible on my iOS device. Hoops were jumped through (sorry, it won't work on a Windows machine or I'd share). Nobody wants to get blown off when they come forward with what they see as a reasonable point and yours was reasonable. One of the things I've learnt in my brief time so far with AgileBits is our customers can be passionate and many can be very passionate when it comes to sync services.

Now the bad news is I don't imagine a re-write of how Windows handles multiple vaults any time soon. It isn't that Windows can't handle multiple vaults but that the implementation differs drastically.

I'm going to ask @stefan to jump in here. He'll be much better placed to say where Windows will be going than I.

I just it had been better news to report. It's always nicer to be able to supply a positive answer than to explain why something isn't possible at the moment.
