iCloud sync does not work on Macbook pro

I cannot get my 1Password to sync with iCloud, both my iOS devices are working well but not my Mac. In system preferences the iCloud option is not popping up while my icon drive is well configured. In iCloud drive options 1Password mini is checked, I see nothing else from 1Password.
I am syncing all my devices via wifi now regularly but that is not what I am looking for. I have the latest version 1Password, 5.1 and the latest version Yosemite, 10.10.2.
How can I solve this, have some pictures to clarify.

    Hi @andreheine,

I'm sorry you're having some trouble with iCloud sync! It will be helpful if you can let us know a few more details:

    • Has iCloud sync ever worked in 1Password on your Mac? If so, when did the problem start?
    • When you say it doesn't work, do you mean you're having trouble setting it up, or is it set up but doesn't sync changes with your iOS devices?
    • Have you followed the steps here to set up iCloud sync in 1Password for Mac?
    • Is iCloud sync currently enabled in 1Password on your Mac?
    • What version of 1Password are you using on your iOS devices?
    • What iOS version is running on your iOS devices?

Also, I'm not sure I understand what this means:

In system preferences the iCloud option is not popping up while my icon drive is well configured.

Can you please elaborate on that? Thanks!

Thanks for your reaction! Sure, here we go:

It worked but I think it was in 1Password 4, not sure if it ever worked in 5.

I have trouble setting it up as in 1password preferences the icloud option is not there, just dropbox or file. Followed the steps, but cannot get the iCloud option visible.

So, I cannot enable iCloud sync in 1Password.

1Password version on the IOS devices is 5.2 and I have IOS 8.1.3. On iPhone 6 and iPad Air.

Answer to your last question (in the box) is: In 1Password preferences in the sync section iCloud is not visible, just dropbox or files and my iCloud drive is well configured in mac's system preferences under iCloud. However I just see 1Password mini checked there, not sure if that is correct.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Hi @andreheine,

Can I ask, if you look in 1Password > About 1Password does it say Agile Web Store or Mac App Store? I suspect you're running our AWS version.

If you indeed are then this is the root of the issue. When Apple released iOS 8 and Yosemite they also introduced a new version of iCloud. This included something called CloudKit, a framework for syncing. Unfortunately when Apple released this new version of iCloud they also restricted access to it to applications or apps purchased solely through their stores (so iTunes and MAS). This sadly means that as of 1Password 5, the AWS version is cut off from iCloud. More information regarding this can be seen in Dave Teare's announcement, iCloud Changes in the Website Version of 1Password 5.

Now I did see if I could find a record of you purchasing 1Password 4 or 5 to clarify this but I could not. Now it might be you purchased 1Password from Apple's Mac App Store which might mean that you're entitled to run the MAS version but are currently running the AWS.

So what will help with troubleshooting is if we can determine what version you're running and where you purchased from.

Hi, just looked and indeed it says Agile Web Store. Checked my software purchase history and I bought 1Password version 2.4 on may 18th 2008, had another email address at that time.

IN the meantime follow the tutorial to switch to the Mac App Store version and all is working well. Thanks for the help!!

  • Great to hear you got things up and running, @andreheine.

Let us know if you run into any other issues.

    Rick
