Upgrade Path and App Store

I'm eligible for an upgrade at $24 or so if I buy from the Agile Bits site. What I need though is the iCloud sync functions which, if I understand correctly, are only available from the App Store which seems to only have options for the full price app.

Is there any way of carrying over the discount on the App Store?

    Sorry, it won't be the answer you want, but it's "no". AgileBits is constrained by the App Store about offering discounts and can be much more flexible with versions sold on its own site.

    Thanks Stephen. I feared as much. Will go with the Developer version then, I always prefer it anyway but the iCloud function would be nice. Anyone know if this is a planned feature for the non-store version at any point?

    iCloud syncing will only come to 1Password if Apple ever decides to open that function to applications that they don't seel themselves on their app stores. Don't hold your breath on that score. You can be sure that Agileabits would add it to their direct release if Apple were to relent.

    I hope the information from Stephen and hawkmoth was helpful, even though those weren't the answers you were hoping for.

    To elaborate on switching to the Mac App Store version: Unfortunately Apple doesn't provide a way to convert a license for our web store version of 1Password to the Mac App Store version, or the ability to do upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store. So if you wanted the Mac App Store version of 1Password, you would need to purchase that separately, at the full price shown there.

    As for including iCloud sync in the web store version, as hawkmoth mentioned, that isn't currently possible because Apple's CloudKit technology that we use for iCloud sync in 1Password 5 only works with apps sold from the Mac App Store. We have more information about that in our Web store and iCloud FAQ.

    Please keep in mind that the web store version of 1Password 5 for Mac can use Dropbox sync, which will automatically sync your 1Password data between devices, similar to iCloud sync.
