1Password and Gmail App and iCloud Password Prompt

Hi,

I am new here, and have been using 1Password for about a month, but I do not think that I know how to use it to its full extent, so I still have not gotten rid of my old-fashioned and unsafe list of written passwords.

My question: I am using iPhone 5C (version 8.1.3) and I have 1Password installed on it. I cannot seem to use 1Password seamlessly when on several occasions, and I would like to know if it's possible, but I simply don't know how to go about it. The occasions are:
1. I have the gmail app installed on my iPhone. For some reason, it's asking me to type in my username and password to log in. I do not see any way in which I can bring up the 1Password app.

  1. Sometimes a dark grey window will appear in the middle of the screen of my phone which includes a prompt for me to include my iCloud password. Again, I do not see an easy way to access my username and password from 1Password.

If anyone could give me suggestions, I will TREMENDOUSLY appreciate it. My passwords are driving me crazy these days.

Thanks in advance!

Not all apps have integrated our extension. Google is one such vendor that has yet to include support for 1Password at all. You'll need to copy and paste the password from 1Password to Gmail.

Here is a list of apps that do support 1Password integration.

    1. Sometimes a dark grey window will appear in the middle of the screen of my phone which includes a prompt for me to include my iCloud password. Again, I do not see an easy way to access my username and password from 1Password.

This is Apple's secure input prompt. Unfortunately, I find it highly unlikely this prompt will ever allow us to integrate. My best advice is to cancel the prompt, switch to 1Password, copy the password, then go back to where the prompt was triggered, and it should appear again. This time you can paste into the field.

It's less than ideal, but for the secure input prompt, I just cannot imagine our extension will ever have access there (though I'd love to be wrong on that down the road).

OK. I went to the URL you noted above....AND...not ONE of the apps listed do I use nor will I EVER use!! So as in a previous post...what good is iOS8 to me IF I don't get this new and tremendous (your words) benefit? None that I can see. Folks, stay with iOS 7.1.2 until Apple gets their act together with iOS8 & OS10.1 (Yosemite) .....this is not the Apple I loved during Jobs era...what is going on with that company, anyhow? Too much cash? Jim b

  • Hi @three-cushion,

Do you use Safari on iOS? If so many customers find our Safari integration that iOS 8 made possible pretty handy:

In any case, thanks for the feedback.

Hi bwoodruff: Thanks for the tip...Yes I use Safari constantly as well as 1Browser. So, Mark up one for updating to iOS8!!

BUT when I open Safari...go to the Share button, all I see is a list of icons with NO such options as noted in the website you recommended above.

    Is this b/c I still have 7.1.2 & not 8.1.3?
    If so...dumb ole me!

  • Hi Jim,

    Thanks for the tip

    You are very welcome!

Yes I use Safari constantly as well as 1Browser

1Browser is great. And even on iOS 8 it still does some things the extension for Safari doesn't do. But in my experience and from what I've heard from a huge number of customers, the Safari extension is a huge boon for convenience.

    Is this b/c I still have 7.1.2 & not 8.1.3?

Yes, the option only became possible with technology offered first in iOS 8.

Mark up one for updating to iOS8!!

    Exactly. :)

Although I'm not quite so certain about what I will never do, I also find that list of apps that use the 1Password extension disappointing. I'm hoping it will grow to include some of the apps I actually use. At the moment, Instapaper and sometimes OneDrive are the only ones I use that are on the list. It is very slick when it's available.

It's the way extensions work at the moment. Safari is the only special case where we can create an extension for it, all other apps have to add support for specific extensions or for a general type of extension (which wouldn't allow us to do what we need to). We've made our extension as open as possible, available to all and my understanding is we've made it pretty easy to add too. The onus is now on others to add it if they see value in doing so. If you have a favourite app maybe ask the developer and see what they think?

You're correct, the number of apps at the moment isn't massive compared to the likes of the iTunes store but it is growing and I don't think we're at half a year since extensions were released.
