Syncing to icloud and/or dropbox is great, but locks me into your app....which I love by the way. But I need the ability to create a reference file. Thanks!

  • Hi @dr5274,

1Password for iOS doesn't have a direct export to plain text, but I do have a few resources you may find helpful:

This blog post, which explains our open data format:

This knowledgebase article which explains how to export from 1Password for Windows (but mostly applies on Mac as well):

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info. It's been a while since I've looked, but the Windows product used to not be free. Has that changed? If not, does that mean I have to purchase the Win version to export my data?

Also, if I typically sync to iCloud, how does the Win app access my data? Or does it mean I have to sync to a Dropbox account?

    Hi @dr5274,

You're correct on both counts. To run 1Password on either Windows or Mac beyond the 30 day trial would require purchasing a licence for that platform. Both can export and the Mac allows you to natively print too.

If your machine is a Windows one as you seem to indicate from your line of questioning then yes, you would need to use Dropbox rather than iCloud sync. As of iOS 8 and the switch to the newer iCloud, access to iCloud related frameworks like CloudKit, the one we use for syncing are limited to apps purchased via Apple's stores. That eliminates iCloud sync as a cross platform sync method for now.

One item of note. If you were to use Dropbox then you can always access the .agilekeychain in a read-only state via 1PasswordAnywhere. While maybe not as convenient as a fully exported vault in say the csv format it would mean you always have access even if you don't have your iOS device. I don't know if that's sufficient for a reference file or not but I thought I'd mention it in case.
