Need help with my totally botched setup

I've messed up this setup so badly I'm embarrassed to post this but I really do need some help. I have managed to purchase 1Password twice and cannot get all the pieces to sync up. The first time, I bought 1Password 5 for MAC through iTunes to share with family and use on my office MAC. Then I realized I needed 1Password 4 for Windows for my home laptop, on which I pay bills. I ended up buying the MAC/Windows package, hoping they would all sync through DropBox. Not happening. I tried deleting the original iTunes downloaded 1Password for MAC from my work machine so I could re-download the newly purchased MAC version. This one has a license key but I keep getting the iTunes version and am not asked for the license #, so am still unable to sync with the newly purchased Windows account from home. Can anyone decipher what I have said and help me figure this out?

    Hi @acrtwcrp,

I'm sorry you're having trouble getting 1Password set up with Dropbox sync!

I tried deleting the original iTunes downloaded 1Password for MAC from my work machine so I could re-download the newly purchased MAC version. This one has a license key but I keep getting the iTunes version and am not asked for the license #, so am still unable to sync with the newly purchased Windows account from home.

If you reinstall 1Password from the Mac App Store, that will install the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5. If you want to install the web store version instead, you can download that from our download site.

However, both the web store version and Mac App Store version of 1Password can sync via Dropbox, so it shouldn't matter which one you have installed on your Mac. Your license has nothing to do with whether or not Dropbox sync works. If you're having trouble setting up Dropbox sync in 1Password for Mac, please make sure you follow the steps here.

If you need to set up Dropbox sync in 1Password for Windows, you can follow these steps. If you want to merge all your data between the Mac and Windows versions of 1Password, you should set up Dropbox sync in the Windows version first, then choose that same .agilekeychain file when setting up Dropbox sync on your Mac.

Does this help? Let us know how it goes, and if you have more trouble getting set up, we'll take it from there. Thanks!

Thanks for the guidance. It's all connected now. What worked was renaming the newest Windows .agilekeychain file (because Windows will only recognize one, and in my frustration, I had a few versions swimming around on my machine). Then I removed the MAC versions of 1Password from DropBox and synced the Windows successfully onto DropBox. Then the MAC and iphone app versions were synced and they all showed up on all devices for the first time. Yay. Many thanks.

  • That's awesome to hear, @acrtwcrp. Let us know if you run into any other issues.

    Rick
