New Password Generator

I can't figure out how to generate a new password using iOS. I have 1Password on a Mac V5.1 and on iOS V5.2. Generating a new password on the Mac is no problem. When using iOS I tap edit in a Login item and i don't see the "key" as described in the manual. I do have a line below the password that says "Generate New Password". When I tap on this line I get a password identical to the existing password. Can someone help?

    Hi @tomlang,

Does our page on Generating a password help at all? If what you're seeing differs at all please do let us know how

What I am seeing is different from the manual page. The manual page shows a key to the right of the current password when you are in the edit function for a Login. My iOS device has 2 lines below the current password. The first line is "Reveal Password" and the second line is "Generate New Password". When you tap on "Generate New Password" the old (current) password is displayed, not a newly generated password.

    Hi @tomlang,

Thanks, that second post helped me understand a lot better. When you select the Generate New Password option you expect it to create a new one by default and then adjust if you tweak the password recipe.

We do have a ticket regarding this but until we get it resolved the easiest workaround seems to be to briefly adjust the password length to force a new password. Not great but hopefully it will suffice until we sort that out.

Thank, that should work for now.

  • Thanks for the feedback, Tom. I've also filed an internal ticket here to make sure that documentation page gets updated.
