Hi there, I have noticed that 1Password on my iPhone tries to connect to vip1.au-anycast1.cachefly.net on port 443 and I would like some information on why the connection is happening? Is it required? What is it for?

Thanks.

I have 1Password setup to sync via dropbox and it connects to various dropbox related address's so possible the above request is also relate?

    Hi @ultimate_tree,

I hope Stephen_C's reply helped you understand what is happening. Let us know if you have any follow up questions.

Thanks for the prompt response Stephen! I understand a bit more now, so 1Password uses Cachefly's CDN and that was why it was connecting to vip1.au-anycast1.cachefly.net. Out of interest if that connection was blocked would 1Password function normally and continue to sync with dropbox if dropbox related connections were allowed?

I suspect Dropbox sync would not be affected (i.e., so long as it doesn't rely on that blocked connection) but to a great extent 1P is not going to run "normally"—because you'd lose the checks for updates and you'd lose rich icons (among the other things listed in the knowledge base article to which I linked).

  • Hi @ultimate_tree ,

It shouldn't affect Dropbox sync, but you can confirm this yourself to be confident that it is working. If you block cachefly, make a change to an item (edit the notes field, for example) and verify it shows up on your other devices.

Note that any traffic to cachefly does not contain any of your personal data. It is only used to retrieve public data such as that listed in the document Stephen_C references.
