Two master passwords for the same master vault (ios) PROBLEM
I'm not sure exactly how I was able to do this but I somehow, for some reason, had two distinct master passwords for a single, IOS password vault (which I would sync with one another btw). One was associated with the vault accessed through my iPhone, the other allowing entrance into the same vault, when accessed on my iPad3. It's important to note that each only worked on it's respective device for some reason but both were access credientials to the same vault.
I recently had to restore factory settings to my iPhone, forcing me to re-download 1Password onto the device as if it were a new device. The problem I've run into is that, the contents of my vault, which syncs to my icloud account, now only can be accessed with the master password previously associated only with my iPad...and I completely forget what that master password was. The hint does not help me and I need access to my account credentials like, badly....any suggestions? Any would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi @AldousHuxtable,
How do you access your vault on your iPad 3 at the moment, is it with a PIN or Touch ID or are you completely locked out of that device too?
Also, do you have access to a Mac at all?
I recently helped a user that couldn't remember their Master Password but still had access through Touch ID. That suggestion will work but it does require 1Password for Mac. The trial will be sufficient if you don't have a licence for the OS X platform though.

The thumbprint is not an option and I actually do not have a Mac, I just use this password manager for my iOS devices. The frustrating thing is that I KNOW MY PASSWORD, but unfortunately I do not remember both of them and the one I forget seems to be the only one that matters all of a sudden.

It sounds like I only have bad news then I'm afraid @AldousHuxtable. If you cannot unlock your only existing vault on the iPad then I can't see any way round this. Without that Master Password it would seem both your vault on your iPad and the sync data in iCloud will remain inaccessible. At this point all we can hope for is the Master Password on the iPad comes back to you :(
Unless the iCloud backup could somehow be useful? I do not use it myself so know little of it. If it keeps multiple snapshots though could you possibly restore one prior to the factory restore of default settings, one that might contain 1Password and the vault that was on your iPhone?

The way I'd been using the service was I would always use what I considered my primary master loggin to access my credentials via my iPhone and just sync any additions or changes across to the iPad, no 2nd loggin necessary. This begs the question...why was I permitted to establish two independent master passwords for the same 1password vault in the first place?
Also, why has one of these log ins become completely worthless all of a sudden?
Also....what's with the lack of cross platform synchronicity? I can't see how I can continue using this password manager going forward but in retrospect, it would have been nice if the lack of windows/mac/ios cross-over had been made clearer before I loaded the vault with my important loggins.0 -
Thank you for responding to my issue, By the way. I appreciate it.

Hi @AldousHuxtable,
I'm sorry you're having trouble with the master password(s)! We previously had an issue in 1Password where changes to a master password would not sync to another device via iCloud sync, even though other changes to the vault would sync correctly. That would explain how you ended up using a different master password on each device. We've fixed that, so in the future you shouldn't end up with a different master password on each device.
If I understand the situation, you reset your iPhone to factory settings, then set it up as a new device instead of restoring from a backup. You reinstalled 1Password and tried to sync with your vault in iCloud, but it's asking for the master password you use on your iPad, rather than the one you used to use on your iPhone. Is that correct? If so, it sounds like your 1Password vault in iCloud and your iPad use the same master password.
Just to confirm: Are you able to unlock 1Password on your iPad? Or have you forgotten the master password that you used to enter on your iPad? If you're still able to unlock 1Password on your iPad with a master password, try entering that same master password when you set up iCloud sync in 1Password on your iPhone.
On the other hand, if you've forgotten the master password you used to enter on your iPad (and therefore, the master password for your vault in iCloud), you won't be able to sync that vault on your iPhone. In that case, it sounds like the only way to access your 1Password data would be to restore your iPhone from an iCloud or iTunes backup of your iPhone that was made before you reset it to factory settings. If you're able to do that, you should be able to unlock 1Password with the master password you used to use on your iPhone. If you try that, please let us know how it goes, thanks!

I have forgotten the master password used for vault access via my iPad, hence I am completely unable to access my vault. This has all been very (and from my perspective, needlessly) distressing but I appreciate your help. I will be using a different service to store and protect personal information in the future. Thank you.
