Problems with Secure Notes, and More

I find 1Password, which I've used for some years, to be a rather frustrating and unpredictable product -- all the moreso because it's both necessary and ALMOST fully functional.

  1. The latest annoyance -- on the very latest version, on an iPhone 6+, if I have a secure note that's longer than the screen and I enter edit mode, I can't scroll up or down to see or edit the part of the note that's off the screen. That is pretty bad.

  2. 1Password fails at syncing over Dropbox on about a weekly basis -- I'm always having to stop and re-enable it, which usually leads to more errors on the grounds that the 'application is being rate limited by Dropbox.'

  3. Setting up on a new iPhone (like my new iPhone 6+) is annoying because somehow I've picked up two vaults in Dropbox -- I can't tell which one is the right one, so I don't dare delete either, but I usually seem to pick the wrong vault during set-up and then have to merge them, which leads through a lengthy series of (I'm sure very necessary) warnings. This also leads to lost passwords.

  4. 1Password doesn't reliably save new passwords on the iPhone version, or reliably allow you to delete an old password and create a new one: pressing the x to clear the field often does nothing, or it deletes the old password but then saves it again instead of the newly-created one.

  5. The new MS Word on iPad works with 1Password, in theory, but in practice it seems to use a domain that 1Password doesn't recognize, so while the 1Password dialogue comes up nicely, it doesn't contain any log-in info.

The parts of the software that work are slick. But there are too many bugs. I wish that instead of adding new features, you made sure the existing core product worked reliably first.

    Hi @trb,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such detailed feedback! Let's see:

The issue with Secure Notes scrolling is one that our developers are already working to solve. We know this is a nasty one and we'll do what we can to have this resolved just as soon as possible!

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble here. Our developers have made some great updates to sync lately, so this really shouldn't be happening in the latest version. Could you please check in the Settings screen and let me know what the version number of 1Password is? (It will be just below the 'Recommend 1Password' option.)

1Password is generally pretty good at merging, and as a rule, it won't delete passwords. If there are differing edits to a single entry, 1Password will create a 'Conflicts' section within the entry to store the conflicting data. This ensures that you don't lose data.

Are you currently using 1Password on any devices other than your iPhone? If you could provide me with the version numbers of both 1Password and your operating systems for all computers and devices currently running 1Password, we can give you instructions to reset sync and get rid of those extra keychains in Dropbox.

Again, your version number of 1Password would be really helpful here. I'm testing in the latest beta of 1Password for iOS, and the delete option seems to behave as expected, and it properly saves a new password when I edit. Could you please provide me a few more details on the precise steps that you are taking that lead to this behaviour? If there is a bug here, we'd love to track it down and get it squashed for you!

For this, I'd suggest looking at the URL that MS Word on iPad uses, and then adding that as a second website in your existing entry. Does this help?
