Is there some way to force this app to sync?

What versions of 1P are you using and what sync method do you use for your 1P data?

If you are using 1P5 on all your devices (OS X and iOS) wifi sync should happen automatically the moment 1P is unlocked on all devices. Thus if you have made any change when you unlock 1P on your devices it should be reflected immediately. You'll understand from that there's no way to "force" wifi sync: it should just happen. It might help us understand more if you explain why you want to force a sync.

Sorry, but I'm not sure exactly how Dropbox works as I don't use it.

    Hi @brettr,

Both Wi-Fi sync and Dropbox should be automatic. Are you seeing data not transferring properly between your devices?

I seeing it not transfer at all. On my iMac, I have to close/open 1P before the sync from my Macbook finally comes over.

    Hi @brettr,

When Dropbox sync is enabled, the 1Password app on your Mac monitors your local Dropbox folder for any changes. Once it sees that there's a change to your .agilekeychain file in Dropbox, it should copy those changes to your 1Password vault. If you make a change on one Mac and don't see that change sync to 1Password on your other Mac, it's possible Dropbox hasn't copied the change from one Mac to the other yet. When you make a change in 1Password, how long are you waiting for that change to appear on the other Mac? Does it matter which Mac you make the change on?

Also, do you sync 1Password with any other devices, or just the two Macs you mentioned? If you sync with other devices, are there problems syncing the changes to those devices as well?

I only wait a few minutes for the updates to show in 1P on MacB. After that, I restart 1P and the updates there. This implies Dropbox is pushing the updates correctly but 1P is not picking them up.

As for other devices, they mostly work fine. Once in a great while the update won't be there on a device. But it is so rare that it's kind of a non issue for me. Thanks.

  • Hi @brettr,

We're tracking down a rare bug where we don't get a notification from OS X that something changed in the sync folder, which is the 1Password folder in your Dropbox folder. If we don't get this notification from OS X, we don't refresh the interface to conserve your hardware resources.

Can you try something for me; when you change your data on Mac A and Dropbox finishes its sync on Mac B, make a tiny change in the 1Password app. For an example, editing one of your items to append "testing" in the title. This will force the app to update its data and refresh the interface. When this is done, see if your change from Mac A shows up now.

Can you also tell me which version of OS X you're using?

I also find dropbox synching on a mac to be hopeless. I have latest versions of both - Mac version 5.1, I am synching via dropbox to two iPhones. When I make a change on one iPhone it shows up very quickly on the other iPhone - but the mac just sits there and doesn't synch. most recently it was saying 'last synched 127 minutes ago'. Dropbox itself seems to synch fine - i.e. for the non-1password side of it - and clearly 1 password is updating as the two iPhones synch quickly. However 1password for mac is clearly not monitoring the dropbox file and synching whenever there is a change....

I just re-read the most recent post - should have done that before posting. I think there is a bug as you describe. For what its worth, I played with this a little yesterday. If I change something on the Mac it updates quickly on the iPhone. If I change the iPhone - it synchs on the other iPhone but not the mac. then after some unpredictable period of time it does update on the mac - like after a few hours...

+1 on minor change. I just ran into this about an hour ago. moved something to a new folder and it synched and viola it was all up to date.

  • Hi @struggling and @angrywayne ,

On the Mac, you can force Dropbox sync to re-run by locking and unlocking the vault. This will force it to look in Dropbox for any changes it hasn't taken in. It sounds to me like you're getting bit by that Yosemite bug. The good news is that it tends to fix itself on its own. When it was affecting my system, it went away after about 18 hours. Like a flu, I suppose. This bug is affecting quite a number of apps, so I expect Apple will want to fix it in the not-too-distant future.

I wish there was more we could do about that bug.
