Dropbox Sync between IOS and MAC broken
I spent two hours at work today on my iPhone creating folders and organizing my passwords in folders.
Using very latest versions on both IOS 8 and Mac.
Both IOS and MAC say synched within last minute. Did this several times.
None of the new folders created in IOS made it over to the MAC. I now have complete different folder structure on both device in spite of the sync.
Did I waste two hours? Can I trust the program to make sure I haven't lost a key password?
Paul

Additional information. Using Dropbox for Sync.

I am running latest versions on both platforms.
I sync with Dropbox.
I happened to look at number of logins on both platforms right after a confirmed sync.
Have 300 Logins on IOS, 327 on MAC.
Have 41 Software Licenses on IOS, 43 on MAC.
What is going on!?

Hi Paul ( @virtualpaul ),
Just to confirm that everything is syncing to the same account, let's try this:
- Create a test entry on your Mac ("Test, Mac") and add some data
- Create a test entry on each of your iOS devices ("Test, iPhone/iPad") and add some data
- Does "Test for Mac" show up on either of your iOS devices?
- Does "Test for iPhone" and/or "Test for iPad" show up on your Mac?
- Log in to the Dropbox website and click on the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain folder
- Enter your Master Password
- Do either or any of your test entries show up in your database here? Do you notice multiple 1Password.agilekeychain files in Dropbox?

Hi @virtualpaul,
I merged your other message into this thread since it seems to be about the same sync issue. Please try the steps that Megan suggested, and let us know how it goes. Thanks! :)

I have the very same issue with being unable to Dropbox sync between Mac and iOS. I followed Megan's steps and the "test for mac" did not appear in Dropbox or on iOS. "test for iPhone" DID appear in Dropbox but not on my Mac. I have two 1Password html files in Dropbox - one says it is a "conflicted" copy from 2012. I am up to date with all software, BTW. Do I need to just switch to iCloud sync to make this go away or is there a bug being addressed? Thanks.

Hi @trmoore,
Thanks for letting us know the results of Megan's steps! From your description, my guess is that Dropbox sync is disabled in 1Password for Mac, or that it's syncing with a different .agilekeychain file than your iPhone. In either case, I think this should be easy to fix. The first thing to check is that Dropbox sync is enabled in 1Password on your Mac:
Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then click the Sync tab. Does that show that it's syncing with Dropbox? If not, follow these steps to set up Dropbox sync.
If Dropbox sync is already set up in 1Password on your Mac, but the sync isn't working, follow these steps to make sure it's syncing with the same keychain file in Dropbox as your iPhone:
On your Mac:
- Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences
- Click the Sync tab
- Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file
On your iPhone:
- Open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync > Sync Service
- Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file (underneath Current Sync Method / Dropbox)
If the problem is that one is syncing with a different keychain file than the other, you'll need to disable the sync, then set it up again and choose the correct keychain file.
Let us know how it goes and what you find, thanks!

Hi Drew,
I had actually checked all of that prior to posting. Now, magically, 5 hours later all is well. I changed nothing in my settings so I'm puzzled ;) I know that 1Password for Mac had not synced properly for several days because I created a new login last week and realized it was missing when I looked on my iPhone at work this morning. Did something change on 1Password's end to correct a problem? My experience has been that syncs occur very quickly. Thanks.

Hi @trmoore,
Are you using Yosemite? There's a bug in Yosemite that affects how we use Dropbox sync, which can cause 1Password not to be notified of changes. The changes are present within the dropbox, but 1Password doesn't get the tap on the shoulder that it should go check there. It happens rarely, and tends to fix itself after a period of time (it lasted about 18 hours on my system when I hit it). The workaround is to lock/unlock your vault. Doing so will trigger a sync and it should pick up your changes.

Since I started this thread, only fair to report out. I think I've somewhat resolved this and believe user error partially contributed.
First, somehow over the many upgrades on both IOS and Mac, I was synching to two keychains. One was in ~/Dropbox (IOS), and one was in ~/Dropbox/1Password (Mac). They were almost identical so hard to detect at first. Not sure why both existed.
Second, it appears that folders sync properly but smart folders do not. So I was still confused when the folder structure did not look the same on both devices. I now trust 1Password again.
Third, the trick of forcing Mac sync by locking and unlocking was vital in debugging this. Not sure, but perhaps Force Immediate Sync should be a button or so on.

Hi @virtualpaul,
Thanks for following up with us! If your iPhone and Mac were each syncing with a different keychain file in Dropbox, that would definitely explain the problem. If you haven't already done so, you can simply disable Dropbox sync on one, then re-enable it and choose the same keychain file the other syncs with. That will allow you to merge all the data, and your iPhone and Mac will be back in sync again.
Sorry for the confusion about smart folders - they don't currently sync, but that's something I'd like to see supported as well. Hopefully we'll be able to add that in the future!
As Rick mentioned above, there's a Yosemite bug which causes 1Password to not be notified of changes to the keychain in Dropbox. Hopefully that will be solved soon in Yosemite, but if it isn't, I'm sure our developers will look into a workaround.
If you need more help, please let us know - we're here for you! :)
