@Scicluna I have created a new thread for your post because you do not have the same problem as the person in the thread in which you posted.
The first thing to ask is whether you've read the sticky at the top of the forum. It contains a lot of information about the "trial expired" message so it just worth checking if you've not already read it.
Did you buy 1P4 or 1P5 direct from the AgileBits store? (The upgrade from 1P3 to 1P4 was not free.) What is the licence that you're trying to add? Is it a licence code or a licence file? When you say it won't let you add the file, what happens when you try? Do you get an error message and, if so, what is it?

Hi @Scicluna,
Posting here in our forums is a great way to contact us here at AgileBits. We do actively monitor these forums every day of the week.
Now I think I've found your licence. Did you purchase 1Password 3 back in 2011 by any chance?
If this sounds correct then as Stephen_C has mentioned in his reply to you, 1Password 4 was a paid upgrade over 1Password 3. It was essentially a complete re-write and AgileBits reserve the right (but do not always do) to charge for new major versions like moving from 3 to 4. Now version 5, the most current one is actually free to anybody that purchased 1Password 4 so a licence for version 4 also works on version 5.
The main decision you have to make at this point is how important do you feel iCloud Sync support will be to you? I mention this as Apple made significant changes to iCloud support when they released iOS 8 and Yosemite but at the same time restricted access to the new frameworks, the bit the applications use to apps and applications purchased through their stores. Now all iOS apps can only be obtained in iTunes so no change there but 1Password for Mac is available direct from our own store, Agile Web Store (AWS) or Apple's Mac App Store (MAS). So you have the following options (assuming you have a 1Password 3 licence and haven't already purchased a 1Password 4/5 licence which I failed to locate).
- Purchase 1Password for Mac direct from us. You can use your existing 1Password 3 licence to obtain an upgrade discount but there is no iCloud Sync support.
- Purchase 1Password for Mac from Apple's Mac App Store (MAS). You gain iCloud Sync but there is no current way to offer a discount when purchasing from Apple's stores.
If you have any questions regarding any of that please do ask.
