Secure Notes new bugs and friendly suggestions
IOS 8.1.3 - IPad 4
Ok 1Password fixed half way a couple of bugs in 5.2.1, but now I am noticing other bugs.
The bugs in order of importance.
Bug 1. Randomly not on all notes, but on some of my secure notes I can not see all the text in the bottom part of that note unless I click edit. Then after I click done. I can not see it again no matter which way I hold my iPad.
Bug 2. Again randomly not on all notes, but on some of my secure notes at the bottom below the notes I can not see add to favorites, move to folder, share secure notes. Again this is on only some of the notes.
Bug 3. Before 1Password times out and locks or crashes their is a 15 second delay that everything locks up within the app. Then crash!
I also have suggestions in order of importance.
Make some kind of print from clipboard for secure notes. After all we already can set a time for the clipboard to clear so safety is their with common sense.
Make a storage for files. At least PDFs files. I would like to be able to use just one encrypted app instead of a second app for storage of documents.
Do we need favorites and organize which are basically the same thing? That's what categories does right?

Hi @kunder,
For secure notes, the issues that we were seeing before was resizing the notes section while editing, and if we made it too big, in some rare cases, it would crash the app. iOS does have a limit on the size of sections. So what we did was make long notes scrollable areas within the notes screen. The scrollable area was just a bit smaller than the screen size. So when you scroll inside a note area, it should center itself in the screen, and if you want to scroll above or below it, you can touch above or below the note area and drag your finger to scroll as normal. This will scroll the entire item, not the note.
So, with that in mind, I'd like to clarify some of your reported bugs:
Bug 1. When the bottom of the note is cut off, are you able to scroll the note to see the cut off part? Does the note scroll but just not enough? Or is the note area blank where the text should be.
Bug 2. When you scroll the note, does it center itself vertically in the screen? After that are you able to touch below the note area and scroll up to see theAdd To Favorites
and other buttons?
Bug 3. That delay is typically writing out diagnostic information to debug crashes. If your device is near full, it may take longer. If you have a crash, please report it and what you were doing right before the crash. It'll help us fix it sooner. Now to address your suggestions:
- Do you wish to print the secure note itself? You can print the entire item by choosing the Share button at the bottom and selecting Print. Is it just the note field itself you wish to print?
- Thanks for the suggestion on that. Currently you can add attachments on the desktop and sync them to 1Password, but there isn't currently a way to add attachments to 1Password. We will certainly consider that feature request.
- No, they all service different functions, though you may not have a need for all of them. The differences are explained below:
- Favorites are for quick access to your most commonly used items. It has its own tab item at the bottom of the screen for quick access.
- Categories is for organizing your items based on the type of item. e.g. Logins, Credit Cards. These categories are set by 1Password and can not be changed.
- Organize (or Folders) are to organize items based on how you want to group items. For example, you might have a "My Bank" folder and place your credit card, bank account, and login item for online banking in that folder. Or you may want to put all your social networking logins in a single folder. You can decide here. You can also nest folders within folders if it helps. Some of our customers have thousands of items, so folders really helps them organize their items.
I hope that answers your questions. Please reply to my questions regarding the reported bugs so we have more information with which to fix them.
Thanks!

I have about 61 secure notes total. Out of those secure notes their are about 5 where the bottom of the note is cut off and no I can not scroll any at all inside any of those 5 particular notes. I can see the whole note by clicking edit or if I click the favorites and/or organize outside of secure notes and then go back it will show the whole note as well. Then if I click another note and go back. Again can not see cut off.
Also 20 of the notes do not show "add to favorite" "move to folder" "share secure notes" below the note. These particular 20 notes do scroll, but will not show the three option at bottom I just mentioned.
The two bugs seem to have happen after 1Passwords last update.
The rest of my secure notes. Work great.
Very strange.Forget the print question. I just wanted to be able to highlight and copy parts of a secure note and print from clipboard inside the printer pro app. I just tried and now that works again after six months of almost giving up. For a while I had to copy, paste to native IOS notes and then re-copy from their to print parts of a note because something for quite a while was preventing a highlighted copy of secure notes from showing on printer pro clipboard. I just tried it and now I can do this again so that is cool. Not sure which of the two apps caused or fixed that.
When you say attachments you mean documents? We mean the same thing right?

This is going to get real strange. I just discovered that the cut off issue does not happen on my iPhone 5S, but the other issue is on both iPhone and iPad not showing "add to favorites "share to secure notes" "move to folder" does not show in the same exact 20 secure notes.
Let's just concentrate on the issues I am having on the iPad for now.0 -
Hi @kunder,
So we're really still in the understand phase here. As such I hope you don't mind questions while we try to understand what you're experiencing.
Here's an image from my iPhone 4S
Now I tried testing this on an iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2 too. If I do that flick to scroll technique, starting on the grey bars I've tried to circle in red I can bring into visibility either the Secure Note icon at the top or the options at the bottom. The iPad mini obviously looks like little different in both landscape and portrait mode but in all they had these grey bars which responded, allowing me to bring the options at the bottom onto the screen.
Now how does this compare to what you're experiencing. You may find it easier to show us of course. Pushing the home button and the power button together takes a screenshot and then all you need to do is edit the image so nothing personal is showing. Mine was all fake data so I wasn't too worried.
Can I ask, as you say it's occurring on certain Secure Notes, does it happen if you create a new Secure Note and copy the contents over from one of the non-functional ones?
I look forward to hearing back from you.

I've noticed the same notes "cutoff" issue on my iPad in landscape orientation. There is no scroll option.

@ryder: Sorry for the trouble! I tested this on my iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2 using the first ~250+KB (items larger than 256KB will not show up in the mobile app currently) of In the Beginning Was the Command Line by Neil Stephenson (ending with the paragraph that begins "If Mark Twain..."-- a great read, if you haven't already!) in a Secure Note, but did not have any 'cutoff' in either portrait or landscape (iPad only), both viewing and editing. I do recall having an issue similar to what you describe back in the day in 1Password 3.
Just to clarify, there isn't going to be a 'scroll option', per se. As you swipe up and down, however, a small bar on the right side will show you your position in the body of the text. Another thing that can sometimes throw people off is that once you start scrolling, the Secure Note title and tags at the top will shift upward to make more room for the note's body text; you can 'pull' this back down using the grey bar at the top (circled in red in the screenshot above).
@kunder: Are you still having this issue after updating to iOS 8.2?
As above, does it still happen to either of you if you copy the contents of the Secure Note you are having trouble with to a new Secure Note? Please let me know. We will get to the bottom of this!

I do not really want to send a picture of my issue. I am just saying on some of my secure notes when I first click on the note it shows only half or so of the article in the note. If I click edit it shows the whole article. If I then click cancel it still shows the whole article. Until I click another note and the go back to the original note it then again shows half the article. Thats what I am saying.

@kunder: That's quite alright. It was only a suggestion, as sometimes showing is easier than telling. I understand what you mean, it just isn't something we have been able to reproduce ourselves. So any clue as to how we might do so could offer some insight into how we might find what is causing the issue for you and perhaps fix it. :)
Are you using any non-default display settings on the iPad, such as Bold or Zoom accessibility options? We have seen some strange behaviour with these on the newer iPhones, so that could be a possibility.
I am glad that you can at least view your Secure Notes in full in Edit mode. In any case, we will continue to keep an eye out for this as we work on improvements for 1Password.

I use iPhone 5s and iPad4.
The issue we are discussing is only happening on the iPad.
Out of my 60 secure notes this is happening on 20 of them.0 -
Solution found after you told me to try a few things.
I moved the text size slider down one point to the middle.
That fixed all my issues discussed here.
Can you tell your people that this only happens on iPad and see if they can fix this so I can move my text size slider up higher to the next point past the middle on iPad.
Thanks0 -
@kunder: Aha! Thank you for mentioning the text size!
After enabling Larger Accessibility Sizes (iOS Settings > General > Accessibility > Larger Text) and increasing the text size to maximum, 1Password crashed when scrolling through a Secure Note. Then the iPad restarted. Then all sorts of strange things started happening. Suffice to say, I think we're on the right track.
I am sharing my findings (along with some bizarre screenshots) with the team, and we will continue to investigate this to see if it is an issue with 1Password or with iOS text scaling.
As you indicated, it seems that using smaller text sizes can help mitigate these issues to some degree, so it is probably best to stick with a slightly smaller text size for the time being. Thanks for your tenacity! :)

I am having the same problem, except that neither changing the slider value nor toggling "larger text" helps. In one case switching to edit mode displays the full text with no scrolling required, possibly because this suppresses the links at the bottom.

Thank you for letting us know about your experience. I've passed the message along to our development team to assist in helping solve this issue.

@Mhayes123: Please try restarting your iPhone after you change those settings and let us know if that helps.
As you can see, reports of this particular issue dried up over a month ago, so it's likely that your iPhone just needs a fresh boot. Let us know how it turns out!
