5.1 510027 Always launches new Chrome instances

All,

Looks like the latest and greatest update that just hit 5.1 510027 will always launch a completely new instance of Chrome (64-Bit) if I browse in 1Pass and double click an entry, even though I obviously have a Chrome instance running..

Pretty annoying since that's pretty much the main way I use 1Pass and getting into my accounts..

Anyone else notice this?

HELP!

    Hi @rt2014,

I'm not able to reproduce that problem, so it's possible you simply need to change a setting in the 1Password extension:

    • Click the 1Password extension icon in the Chrome toolbar.
    • Click the 'gear' icon.
    • Go to Open URLs in New Windows and change that to New Tab.

Does that help? Let us know if you need more help with that, thanks!

Nope, no luck.. That's what I've always had it set for, but I changed it and changed it back, doesn't seem to make a difference.. Even though I have a Mac :) I tried to reboot and no change..

Every time I try to launch something from 1Pass it'll always fire up a new instance..

    Here's my environment:
    10.10.2
    Chrome 41.0.2272.53 beta (64-bit)
    1Pass 5.1 510027

And like I said I never had an issue until I upgraded to this version..

Let me know if I need to submit anything..

    Thanks!

    Hi @rt2014,

Now you said new instance, not just new window, am I making the correct distinction here? To me two instances would mean two copies of Chrome running, so two icons in the docks.

I tried the latest stable and beta of Chrome, latest stable and beta of 1Password. Using combinations of those I couldn't replicate your findings.

Eventually I did find one way to have two instances of Chrome running but I'm struggling to believe it applies. I have Chrome in my Applications folder but I launched another copy, in my instance from the mounted dmg file. Now clicking on a link in 1Password use the default browser which while Chrome, is specifically the Chrome in Applications. That launched a second copy. You don't have two copies of Chrome at all do you?

You know what? I DO have 32 and 64 bit Chrome installed and in Prefs / General it appears that my default Web Browser got changed back to 32 bit which is what I'm thinking 1Pass was using!

    Doh!

Let that be a lesson to you! Either uninstall multiple versions of Chrome, or make sure your default browser is set to the one you think it is!

Sorry about that, nothing to see here! hahah

    Thanks!

I solved a Chrome issue woohoo!

Glad we could help @rt2014 :chuffed: It's easy enough to do and sometimes it just needs a fresh pair of eyes. Heck, that applies equally here when we're trying to help somebody with a complex query.

Let us know if you run into any other troubles.
