restoring my data
My Mac flashdrive died and I lost all my data, including my passwords saved in 1Password. I requested you to email me my license number as a start, but nothing came through (and I checked the spam file as well). I clicked on the "contact us" link but it wanted to launch Outlook, which is not installed on this computer, which is not mine. What do I do now to get to someone who can help me figure out if I can access my password data somehow?

Hi @Marcee,
I'm sorry to hear about your Mac! Do you have any backups of that Mac (via Time Machine or other backup software/service)? If so, we can help you find the 1Password backups in your Mac backup. Or had you been syncing 1Password via Dropbox or iCloud? Do you have your 1Password data on any other device, or were you only using it on that Mac?
As for your license, I tried searching our system for the email address associated with your forum account but couldn't find any licenses for you. If you purchased a license for 1Password for Mac from our web store with a different email address, you can have your license resent to you from the "I've lost my license" section of this site.
Or is it possible you purchased 1Password for Mac from the Mac App Store? In that case, you'll need to reinstall it from the Mac App Store. Just launch the Mac App Store, make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used to make the purchase, and reinstall 1Password from the Purchases section.
Let us know if you have any backups of your Mac (or if you synced your 1Password data at all) and we'll take it from there, thanks!

It looks like I'm SOL since I had not backed up the 1Password info anywhere. My license # might be under the email address of email address removed but it sounds like having the license number won't do me any good at this point, correct?

Hi @Marcee,
I've removed the email address you posted as these are public forums and you may not want everybody knowing that address. Before deleting it I did check our records but it wasn't found.
Now of course we can still work with you to send your licence to you but you should know that the licence is only about running 1Password. Possible sources of your vault other than the internal drive would be:
- If you enabled Dropbox or iCloud Sync. This is not enabled by default.
- An iOS device you Wi-Fi synced with.
- Time Machine, Super Duper! or CCC, basically have you used a program to create a backup of the drive.
- Backup files you've manually copied for safe keeping.
If you have none of those then I only have bad news I'm afraid. One of our selling points to many is your vault is entirely under your control, we never copy it anywhere without your explicit instruction.
Back to your licence. The quickest way to locate your licence may be if you were to email us at support+licenses@agilebits.com with a link to this thread and the following information:
- Your full name as you would have used it at the time of purchase.
- Your physical address at the time of purchase.
- A list of any and all email addresses that you might have used and that you would like us to search for.
With that we should hopefully be able to locate your licence. We can only hope that one of those options listed above regarding your vault is applicable.
