iPad version never asks for pincode, always Master Password

Additionally, even though it is set to lock only after 1 hour, in almost all cases when I return to the app it is locked, however short a time it has been.

My iPhone app sometimes asks for the Master Password, but more often the pincode.

iPad 3rd gen, iPhone 4S; both running the latest iOS.

A couple of thoughts, which may or may not be germane. Do you have a PIN set for your iPad too? If you don't, 1Password won't be able to store your master password in temporary memory, and since your data can only be decrypted with the master password, you'll end up being asked for it every time.

Another thought is that iOS will shut down applications that are running in the background when it needs to reclaim memory for something else. If that happens, you'll be asked again for your master password. I will say that this possibility hasn't affected me on an iPhone 6. And I don't have a PIN set for 1Password on my iPad that doesn't have Touch ID.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a pin set for my iPad. I also wondered about the RAM issue, but I tested with only one other app open and the problem still occured. It would also be surprising that it happens on the iPad 3rd Gen rather then a 4S iPhone. I have plent of storage memory available on the iPad for virtual memory, and hardly any on the phone.

I'm out of ideas, but I am sure these extra details will help others give you a hand.

  • Hi @NoEarthlyReason,

Could you please post a screenshot of your 1Password > Settings > Security pane? I'd like to see which settings you have enabled/disabled there.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I hope we can find a solution.

  • Thanks for the screenshot, @NoEarthlyReason. I see no earthly reason why those settings shouldn't work as intended! When you say you're returning to 1Password and being asked for your MP, vs the PIN, is that the main app or the Safari extension you're referring to?

I'd expect to see the behavior you are describing with the extension.

It's with both. The main app does sometimes (rarely) stay unlocked for a few minutes, but has never asked for the pincode.

  • Please try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. First, make a backup of your data:

    https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/itunes-backups

Once complete, remove and reinstall 1Password. Upon reinstallation you can follow the above guide to restore your data, or you can set syncing back up if applicable.
