Multiple Login attempts Wordpress Admins
I have noticed that on almost all my self-hosted Wordpress sites, the first attempt to login (using 1 Password to go to the site and fill in) results in a failure with the notice "Incorrect username or password". I am using 1Password Version 5.1 (510027) Mac App Store, Yosemite 10.2.2, and the problem appears to happen in both Safari (8.0.3) and Chrome 41.0.2272.89. After the first failed attempt, I use the I Password browser extension dropdown again to autofill and it works.
Sites are hosted both on GoDaddy and DreamHost. I have contacted GoDaddy and their only response was "sounds like a browser cache issue". I do have my browsers set to clear cache overtime I visit a page (being a web developer this is important).
Any idea what's going on? Its an annoyance and a new issue in the last few months.
thanks

Hi @nancyT,
There are three ways to log into a site.
- open and fill from the main 1Password window
- Selecting a login item from 1Password mini, either using the keyboard shortcut
⌥⌘\
or the 1Password icon in your browser or menu bar to bring up the menu. - Using ⌘\ to fill in the existing page.
It sounds like you're saying 1. is always failing while 3. works. Can I ask please
- If you open the page manually and then use 3. does it always work?
- How does option 2. behave?
- What version of the 1Password browser extension are you running?
Hopefully we can identify the source of the problem

Okay yes, I see the difference. It is #2 (the Mini) that is giving me the problems on the first attempt. Once it fails, I can go back to the Mini in the browser menu bar & it fills correctly and works.
I have Safari extension 4.2.5
I'm wondering if the new Safari option to remember passwords is getting wrapped into this problem. There is often a dropdown option in the username form entry with a key icon, am I correct in assuming this is a Safari function?
thanks

Hi @nancyT,
Safari does have it's own password saving mechanism but it looks like this:
and 1Password's saving mechanism looks like this:
I'm not entirely sure about the key icon, could you possible post a screenshot of it please, maybe it's one of these silly things where I'll know exactly what you're referring to once I've seen it.
So at the moment you're using open and fill from 1Password mini and it repeatedly fails the first time but with the page loaded properly the subsequent fill works and this is just with these two sites at the moment?

Hi Little Bobby Tables 8-)
Yes, I understand the difference in saving passwords. I have opted to use both systems, tho perhaps this is causing a conflict.
The key icon is the autofill that appears, most likely from Safari I think (see below). This is really a side issue UNLESS it is causing trouble with 1Password. I like using the Safari system as it seems to be more seamless in synching, but I don't use it for sensitive sites like banks, etc.
And yes, the open & fill fails the first time, but with the page loaded the subsequent fill works, but it is with most of my self hosted WordPress admin login sites. (about 10 of them) (With other sites, the open & fill seems to work, but I still have to hit the enter to key to submit the form.)
thanks!

Hi @nancyT,
Sorry for the misunderstanding. It's been a while since I've used Safari's password manager, mostly because it annoyed the [expletive] out of me. I have to confess, I actually have 1Password's turned off too unless I'm troubleshooting, I'm set in my ways and I like to add mine manually.
Your screenshot helped and yes, that is Safari and not us.
I've hard of instances where on asking if you want to save a password Safari and our dialog can cause timing issues but I don't remember coming across anything connected to filling.
There are two troubleshooting steps I'd like to try if you don't mind. For both can you select one of the Login items that does this.
- If you edit the existing Login item and change the submit from zhuzhu.zhu@icloud.com to Never submit this will stop 1Password from mimicking the enter key after filling. It will mean you need to click on the Log In button but do yo get the error message when this happens?
- If you create a new Login item using our Saving a Login Manually guide does this new Login item behave any differently? If it does do you notice any obvious differences between the old Login item and the new one?
Hopefully the answers to those might help determine what is going on.
