Master Password no longer works?
Hello,
I've been using 1Password for ages, and it's been great. I use it every day and it's never thrown up any problems. That is, of course, until today. I turned off my phone and, as it always does, 1Password asked for my master password when I opened it. I haven't changed my password since I set it, I haven't synced 1Password at all, but for some reason my password (which I know is correct, I have it written down) won't work.
The only thing that I could think as possibly messing things up is that I updated to ios 8.2 yesterday. I don't know how this could ruin everything but its the only change that's occurred recently. I am rather desperate, because I use 1Password for every important password I have and I think I'll have a mental breakdown if I can't get it/ at least recover my passwords.
Thanks for you time.

I doubt your experience is related to the iOS update. At least, I haven't experienced what you describe.
Here are some hints for trying to recover from a forgotten password. I know you say you are sure you are entering it correctly, but it's still worth going through the list.

https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/37731/bug-with-ios-8-2 this person appears to be suffering the same problem.
Unfortunately, those hints have proven useless.0 -
Please try this. Type your master password in plain text in something like the Notes app, check that it's correct (as you know it) then copy and paste it into 1P. Does that work to open 1P?
There can't be a known problem with the upgrade to iOS 8.2 and "lost" master passwords or there'd be an awful lot of people on here screaming about it. :) That's why I've suggested you try something else.

Thank you, but that method doesn't work. Am I just going to have to start over?

I would suggest, before you start over, given that you have important data stored there, to wait until someone who works at AgileBits comes along. I don't know what they might be able to suggest, but they know more about what's under the hood than I do, for sure. I am sure, however, that if you no longer have your master password, there will be no way to recover your data.
Do you sync your data to anyplace other than your own iOS device? Are they in iCloud or Dropbox? In a desktop version of 1Password? If you have a desktop installation, does that open with your master password.
I don't say this to insult, but I'd also walk away and come back awhile later. I have a family member who forgot a very familiar password that encrypts his entire disk, which wasn't backed up. Once he let go, his muscle memory returned and he was able to enter his password successfully.
As @Stephen_C said,
There can't be a known problem with the upgrade to iOS 8.2 and "lost" master passwords or there'd be an awful lot of people on here screaming about it.
And I would be one of them.

Hi @Iforgotthis ,
I'm so sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having with 1Password. I have to agree with Stephen and Hawkmoth - it seems unlikely to me that the iOS update could affect 1Password this way, but I'd like to have a closer look at your system to see if we can get any idea where things are getting tangled up.
I'd like to ask you to create a Diagnostics Report from your iOS device:
https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#ios4Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can quickly track down the Report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

Ok I am screaming about it too. I can't open 1password, which is the first step in creating a diagnostic report. I can get into my 1password for windows but not iOS. This has got to be from the update I didn't have an issue until I updated the iOS on my phone yesterday. I can also access the web version from dropbox but it doesnt seem to have nowhere near the entries I have saved on the two platforms which makes me loath to reinstall. If I reinstall it will ask me for the master password again anyway I am sure. I think we need to acknowledge the fact that there is a problem and quit poo pooing it away.

@v4magna - If your data are safely stored on your Windows machine and in Dropbox, there is nothing you could lose by deleting 1Password from your iPhone and installing a fresh copy. Yes, you will be asked for your master password when you reinstall and point the installation to your Dropbox data. But you won't lose anything if the master password isn't accepted. Obviously, that's up to you, but I thought I'd point it out.
I don't work for AgileBits, but I am certain they aren't poo pooing away any problems users are having.

Ok so locked out of 1Password.agilekeychain so I guess I will just sync wifi to my laptops 1Password since they are up to date.

@v4magna: I'm sorry you've been having so much trouble! :(
I can get into my 1password for windows but not iOS. This has got to be from the update I didn't have an issue until I updated the iOS on my phone yesterday.
Sometimes just restarting the device can help when things start behaving strangely. (Un)fortunately, AgileBits just has access to neither your 1Password data nor the Master Password to unlock it. But there are always some steps you can take that may help rectify a password issue.
But if all else fails, the advice above is sound: if the 1Password itself somehow became damaged during the iOS update (granted, I haven't heard of that happening before), you can reinstall the app and sync your data over to it from one of your other devices. Please let us know how it turns out!

Issue resolved for me since I had a backup which I could reach wirelessly. But I don't know if that will help a person that only has the back up on dropbox. I was syncing both my devices from the dropbox file. my phone could no longer pass the proper credentials to get in. the laptop had no issues. So yeah I reinstalled the phone app and still couldn't sync with dropbox, so I synced it with the laptop. Problem resolved.
